should start an NBA thread... probably my favorite sport to watch, and something i could talk about forever.

mike brown is totally awful. i would have fired him mid series against the celtics. agree, he's always been terrible, and it's a long time coming.

doc is overrated imo. i think he's better now than he was when we won the championship in '08 actually. remember back then he had very similar problems with subs/rotations... he would play 10 guys, and nobody knew how many minutes they were getting from one game to the next.

lebron is too immature to win a championship. he might grow up overnight with a new coach. but he needs to worry less about the referees, the highlight plays, etc... and more about moving the ball. i think i saw him catch and shoot twice in the celtic series.......... and that's one of two reasons he shouldn't go to chicago, neither bron or rose can play off the ball (the other being the mj factor imo).

i really like this magic team. position to position, total talent wise,... they match up well with the celtics. i think the difference is that across the board, the celtics have the better passers.

I don't know that you put it all on Mike Brown in that series. Celtics are just flat out better than the Cav's right down the line:

Center - Probably a wash
Power Forward - Garnett over anyone on the Cav's
Small Forward - LeBron
SG - Allen over anyone on the Cav's
PG - Rondo over anyone on the Cav's
Bench - What I thought might hurt the Celts ended up opposite with the Celts outplaying them

As far as being old, the Celts killed the Cav's on the first break with Rondo, Ray Allen and Tony Allen running all over them. I think the whole age thing is overrated anyway, I mean Pierce and Allen can run all day long, so it is really just Garnett and Wallace. LeBron didn't quit and the elbow thing was just a joke! The Celts went old school and played smothering defense on them, something they had no answer for. How about the rumor of Delonte West banging LeBrons mom?????

Celts in 6

Click Click BOOM!

i agree with a lot of this.

pierce can not run all day long though... disagree there. and rondo is not the same player in the 4th as he is in the 1st either.. no backup, and he just covers so much distance out there (point guard that doesn't just stop at the 3pt line on either end). rondo's a maniac in the playoffs, and this was more of an issue i guess i had with him in the regular season.

re: how the celts matched up with the cavs... i agree on your above assessment. however... i don't think garnett's advantage over jamison is as large as it was if jamison was used properly by a coach running an actual offensive system. cleveland is clearly less than the sum of their parts. their role players are better than they looked.

We had a kid on our team that we called Ave, reason being was everyone knew there was no D in Dave. That is Jamison, he is one dimensional and should be a 6th man somewhere. Being from Boston, I get to see all the Celts games and the thing that kills me the most about Rondo is that sometimes he just needs to make the pass, not the highlight reel pass. But the guy is a big time player and I love how people say he can't shoot, because he can. He is just starting to pull up and take those foul line jumpers which makes him even more lethal. You hit the nail right on the head with Doc, I swear if you were a fan sitting next to the bench there was a chance he would put you in. Now though, he has shortened that rotation for the playoffs and it has worked well. I think way too many people are looking at what the Cav's did wrong and not what the Celts did right. How about this, Celts don' t sign Allen next season and Pierce opts out, bring on LeBron to Boston, we will take him.

I don't put it ALL on Mike Brown... I put a majority of it on him though. Watching Mo Williams play as many minutes as he did letting Rondo score and not put up points himself (except the last game) was making me sick. You are right about Rondo, Allen & Allen scoring... they were all hot. Wallace and Big Baby were playing the best they have all season. But when you go down the lineup like you did, its not always about who has the best players but who has the best team. Cavs didn't have anything "best" in any series but small forward in Lebron. After that, it was a total team effort. The entire bench was on the same level and using them correctly (I believe) would have made a huge difference.

We definitely need an NBA post... I could go on with this forever. lol

I'd end up hating NBA basketball if LBJ went to the Celtics...

I did hear about West knocking boots with Bron's mom! Wow... That's crazy if its true.
They make a perfect couple though... West has a split personality and Bron's mom is a fucking crazy!

I always liked West and you know he was a Celtic to start his career so maybe there is a little bit of a conspiracy there...

PG - Rondo
SG - LeBron
SF - Pierce
PF - Garnett
C - Perkins

Lock it up....

I don't think that would ever happen...but imagine him with KG, Perkins, and Rondo

someone emailed this to me... unsure where it came from... but interesting....

-------------------------

We've heard a lot of chatter about John Calipari and LeBron James coming to Chicago as a package deal in recent days -- something we touched on Monday.

And while it's possible -- the connections do make some sense, especially with William Wesley involved -- there are two facets that, for now, are casting doubt on such a scenario.

ESPN's Andy Katz reported Monday that the Bulls haven't discussed such a scenario. And K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune only wrote that Wesley had contacted the Bulls, not that the Bulls were on board for it.

Further, ESPN's Chris Broussard said on Monday's "SportsCenter" that LeBron has never clamored for Cal as a coach.
So while there are some reports that Wesley has contacted teams about Cal and LeBron as a package, there's no indication the Bulls will bite, or that it's LeBron's first choice.
So what about current Celtics coach Doc Rivers?

From Terence Moore of FanHouse: "[James is] going to the Chicago Bulls. Trust me .... When LeBron James switches ... he'll bring his own coach with him. It'll be Doc Rivers ... What I just said isn't a done deal, but only because it is slightly an eternity between now and July 1 .. You can attribute my thoughts on LeBron's future to a mighty whisper in a breeze from the Windy City. There also is common sense ... James loves Rivers' coaching style, and that was even before the Celtics shocked his Cavaliers in the second round of the playoffs this year."

Moore goes on to detail how despite Celtics GM Danny Ainge "hounding" Rivers the past few months to sign a contract extension, he's continued to say "no" and will wait until the summer to decide his future. He does have one year remaining, so his contract would have to be bought out if he were to come to Chicago.

Rivers coming to Chicago would make more sense than Calipari for two reasons:
1. He's a Chicago guy, has more pro coaching prowess than Calipari and would fit in well with the Bulls' front office -- or at least more than Calipari would. He'd likely command more respect, instead of just being the guy that's here because of LeBron. It's just a better fit all around.
2. LeBron appears to be fond of Rivers as a pro coach, something that isn't as clear with Calipari.

So yes, this does have some logic behind it. Whether it happens, though, remains to be seen.

Lebron is ridiculously overrated. I would much rather have a couple more aging years out of one of the NBAs all time best shooters (Ray) and a guy who is far more clutch and mentally tougher than Lebron(Pierce). Sure, Lebron will likely eventually win a title or two, but I wouldn't want him on my team. Between him and Wade, I would also rather take Wade. Just compare the way each of them reacted with their team about to get eliminated to the Celtics. Wade single-handedly extended his series with a clutch performance, while Lebron just kind of faded out and made a few narcissistic comments to the press. Wade already has a Finals MVP, something Lebron hasn't gotten close to.

for 2010, i'd rather have wade too.

in general though, you have to take lebron. he's still young. eventually he's going to "get it" and be far more unstoppable than any team with dwayne wade ever could be.

All he needs is a legit side kick and Boston is just the place...Just watch, Ainge won't sit by and watch the team grow old like they did back when he played. Maybe it is Wade...

we're not a player in free agency this year. we have no way of clearing cap space.

the only shot we have to get younger is by trading expiring contracts (something we chose not to do with allen this year). i'd be shocked if we ever trade pierce. he's the guy i think least fits in with rondo (the future).... but he's legitimately an all time great celtic, and the organization will not "do him wrong".

by not dealing allen at the deadline this year... we essentially tied our hands for the next 2 years. all that will change next year is rondo will get better, the big 3 will get older, we add someone at the mid level exception, and we draft a player that has a 50/50 shot at making the team, and a 10% shot of making the rotation.

the only way to keep this team from getting really old.... is to essentially give up in 2 years and be really bad for awhile before we get lucky and draft a durant, wade, etc. for ourselves.

i'd rather just be old. be the spurs/suns for awhile. build/re-build with veterans that are willing to take pay cuts to play for a championship team/championship coach/great point guard.... and just ride it out as long as you can (as long as rondo is there and healthy).

tldr?
