To the original poster: How do you feel your receiving TE has done in his career? His receiving numbers so far thru 8 seasons look like something from a TE who's been 2nd string almost his entire career. His pancakes are decent, at least. How has he been used in the gameplans? Just wanted to get an idea on how you thought he's performed so far, and what you would change. I have a level 30 TE that I capped strength up to the 5:1 cap first, then worked on speed up to 5:1. I'm hoping for separation and his size/strength to produce broken tackles after the catch. I know everyone wants to pump up vision and catching, but I'm considering getting them up to around ~55 max and using the rest of the SPs on carrying, jumping, and agility. In about 2 seasons I'll know the score.

A question to the general public: Does anyone still make cheap WR's of their TE's?

For those interested, this is my level 30/30 TE:

Strength: 76.87
Speed: 95.86 (+22)
Agility: 42.8
Jumping: 10
Stamina: 30.86
Vision: 21
Confidence: 20.8
Blocking: 20
Catching: 36.8
Carrying: 40.8

Receiving Abilities
Route Running: 1
Sticky Hands: 1
Quick Cut: 1
Cover Up: 1
Lower the Shoulder: 1

Additional Abilities
Power Through: 1

Veteran Abilities
Possession Receiver: 7

I'd say he's been underutilized his entire career. It's understandable because he has been low on stamina and the teams he was on utilized him in blocking since they lacked a proper blocking TE. He may have decent strength, but he's nowhere near blocking TE caliber. All that aside...

when he does get the ball, he typically does some cool shit. He's not really ready for real production and I understand that. Before archetype's were available, I started this guy... so that may explain why his production is extremely poor because now I could get away with going speed first etc. Or perhaps another route and not have to follow the old training paths that were used before.

Hopefully I can find him a place this season where he'll be used properly. I wish I could get his jumping up, but that would require me to ignore his stamina and I'm not sure I can do that.

Stamina can't really be ignored anymore. It's a bummer. There are seemingly too many attributes to pump into a receiving TE. If you try to round out the build, the TE becomes mediocre. Try to focus too much on one thing and he becomes sucky in other areas. TE's would be a lot more useful if height/weight played a more important role in breaking tackles and getting into position for the ball. Instead everyone has to invest in all these % and fake/juke/spin pieces which don't really become available or useable until mid-way, late in their build.

Not sure where you're going with that, but you can easily get a BT% piece early in the career and it still be useful. Weight and running style are huge as well as VA's that benefit YAC. You just have to combo all of those together to achieve such.

My TE has been breaking tackles since season 1. He just doesn't get the ball thrown to him much... so I'm hoping to truly find out if he's viable or not when he's playing people above/around his level. We'll see how that goes since he'll be in SAPL this season.

The Blocking TE continues to beast and will be in his second WL season, I still wish I went a little higher in strength to begin with... but I'm happy where he ended up. I also wish I had more BT's to get some more AEQ etc. But it's pretty clear agility is still super important to blocking on the go (which TE's and FB's typically do).

Would you say about 80 agility is a good target for the blocking TE? Or would it pay off if you decided to take it to 85 or so?

I wouldn't take it any higher than the 5th cap and let the ALG's deal with the rest. But it really depends on when you do it... there may be a need to take it higher if you don't get to it soon enough.

Just make sure it ends up 80-85ish end build.
