I heard from my offensive coach that if the players on the depth chart all drop below the sub out level the sub in will be randomly picked? Is this true?

Yes, thats why sometimes you will see CBs or Safeties have catches at WR.

Is there at least some logic in who gets subbed in? i.e. we wouldn't want a punter in at CB... To me that seems like a bug, if all the guys on the depth chart are below the sub in level then who ever is playing should stay in until someone goes above it. Doesn't that make more sense?

No the sim wont sub in players that are not on the depth chart. If you set 1 person one the depth chart they will play the entire time.
Now if you only have 3 or 4 WR's on the depth chart then yes the sim will pick the best player left in a 5 WR set.

I've had CBs sub in at WR even though they weren't on the WR list. Do you mean that if you have a player who is not assigned to any position then they won't get subbed in no matter what?

Ive been looking but cant find any good info on out of position subs. One of the GM's on my team seems to think that a high level OT is better in the DT backup role than a low level DT. I have a level 2 DT with higher tackling skill than the level 17 OT...who should play? Are levels that important or is skill more important??
If someone could PM me some advice on this I would appreciate it!! Thanks!

Same here. I don't doubt that it has been beaten to death, but it seems nobody has made a glorified FAQ/sticky which covers ST with the exception of the ST lineup order at #14 here: http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=93807
My question has surely been beaten to death but the search is disabled so I can't confirm. I recall someone (Bort?) posting that ST players expend more in-gmae energy (breath) than normal players and running starters on ST is not the best tactic. Anyone have a link or confirmation of that? (Bort?

I disagree with the DE position roles. In the games I've seen and been in, the LDE is the most common one getting to the QB, while the RDE is getting more tackles on the run and dropping into coverage more often.
An example:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=249546
http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=244349
These two players were the starting DEs for the same team all of last season. Saying their builds is nearly identical would be an understatement(though he obviously had to boost at the beginning of the season to help the team be competitive after moving up in the offseason). These two mirrored each other in almost every way - which is why they're a good case study for this.
Notice the stats between the two last year. Player 1 played LDE, player 2 played RDE. I've seen this trend continue this season, and play my pass rusher at LDE on teams I have control over such things.
Not saying you're wrong, just providing evidence that roles may not be all that cut-and-dry.
