the difference between the yankees and red sox is that while both teams DO grow their own talent (yankees can boast posada, rivera, jeter, cano, and at one time bernie williams all as homegrown), they have the money to keep the talent on top of adding outside talent
Yea but all those yankees you named as homegrown except cano are all old or getting old they have a roster full of older stars and no young guys coming up and a bare farm system. thats not a good combination.
the red sox want to call the yankees the evil empire, but they're basically the same team, just the sox are about 10 years behind.
i think part of the "evil empire " name comes from george and hank running there mouth. It just seems like john henry and theo are quieter about it and just go do what they do without spouting off and trying to one up everybody. The other think is that the yankees are ALWAYS in the news for something. If its not a-rod and madonna or petite/clemens thing. Its always something. It gets really old after awhile. You never see pedroia or Bay or any other redsox in the news. We had the Manny drama but that was dealt with. Manny caused problems in the team chemistry and he was dealt. In NY they invite drama. If manny was in NY the wouldnt care if he caused problems. Boston acts like a unit, NY acts like a group of individuals.
To say the red sox are any different than the Yankees is a joke....both want look to break the bank on Free Agents every season, Red Sox are no different. You forget, the Yankees could have easily bought Manny but they didn't. They knew that Manny wouldn't cut his hair and cause his usual Manny drama. How can you blame the steriods thing or a-rod and madonna on the Yankees? I believe every team had players who used steriods, and a lot of mlb players cheat on their wives...they just aren't in New York and it isn't with Madonna so it doesn't make the news. I do agree, ESPN's love affair with teams like the Yankees, Cowboys, and also the Red Sox, believe it or not, gets very old.
