the difference between the yankees and red sox is that while both teams DO grow their own talent (yankees can boast posada, rivera, jeter, cano, and at one time bernie williams all as homegrown), they have the money to keep the talent on top of adding outside talent

Yea but all those yankees you named as homegrown except cano are all old or getting old they have a roster full of older stars and no young guys coming up and a bare farm system. thats not a good combination.

the red sox want to call the yankees the evil empire, but they're basically the same team, just the sox are about 10 years behind.

i think part of the "evil empire " name comes from george and hank running there mouth. It just seems like john henry and theo are quieter about it and just go do what they do without spouting off and trying to one up everybody. The other think is that the yankees are ALWAYS in the news for something. If its not a-rod and madonna or petite/clemens thing. Its always something. It gets really old after awhile. You never see pedroia or Bay or any other redsox in the news. We had the Manny drama but that was dealt with. Manny caused problems in the team chemistry and he was dealt. In NY they invite drama. If manny was in NY the wouldnt care if he caused problems. Boston acts like a unit, NY acts like a group of individuals.

To say the red sox are any different than the Yankees is a joke....both want look to break the bank on Free Agents every season, Red Sox are no different. You forget, the Yankees could have easily bought Manny but they didn't. They knew that Manny wouldn't cut his hair and cause his usual Manny drama. How can you blame the steriods thing or a-rod and madonna on the Yankees? I believe every team had players who used steriods, and a lot of mlb players cheat on their wives...they just aren't in New York and it isn't with Madonna so it doesn't make the news. I do agree, ESPN's love affair with teams like the Yankees, Cowboys, and also the Red Sox, believe it or not, gets very old.

im not blaming steroids on the yankees it just seems like they have more than there share of former steroid users. Oh and whats the deal with having to cut there hair. I would think as long as the guy can but bat to ball it wouldnt matter what his hair looks like. that rule might turn away some free agents. i know the madoona thing wasnt the yankees fault it was a example of the type of people they bring in. besides manny when was the last time a red sox player was in the news? the answer is never and dont say its be cause the yankees get more attention cause they are in NY. cause i done a search and couldnt find any negative news stories about red sox players. you have to admit the red sox act like professionals.

Hmm didn't Josh Beckett just get suspended for throwing at Bobby Abreu's head. That seems negative to me. Yeah the Red Sox are full of role models

you are right throwing 78 year old men to the ground is professional as it comes. The thing with the hair is trivial...most headlining free agents (Damon and Randy Johnson) didn't let something like that get in their way from donning the pinstripes. But Mhayes you are right, do to the magnitude of the market, the yanks will get mentioned more then the other teams but also their history of success lends them the media's ear almost as much. Because of the increased spotlight, more yankees will be center stage on the news for something that might have merely gotten a red sox in the news paper page 3. I am glad that the red sox have in recent years made it competitive because before 2004, so now its more like a true rivalry on skill level as well as bad blood. The only player i have unquestioned respect for do to his overall play in the field and with the bat is Youkilis, not david ortiz who only plays half the game itself. I do have one major question....why give J D Drew big time money to play maybe 120 and if you are really lucky 140 games a season? Dont forget Clemons was yours first and rumored to have started juicing his last few years in boston right before his trip to Toronto for a couple of seasons

And as for the farm system arguement about no new guys...Ian kennedy, Phil Hughes, Joba Chamberlin...those three are getting set to be in the rotation for a long time. Cano is a great talent, Bradley Stuttle the 3B prodigy has defense like crazy, and we hav this 19 year old kid who is a catcher whose bat is ready he just needs a little better defense. that doesnt even mention Billy Gardener and Melky Cabera...i think we will be alright.

Hey Zimmer came out to brawl with the big boys, you know what they say " if you cant run with the big dogs stay on the porch". The reason the red sox are not in the news is because they are not out running around with madonna. you cant report stuff that doesnt happen.I know i looked for dirt on the red sox its not out there. Im sure they know they are under the scope in NY, than why dont they take extra effort to stay out of the media. Any smart adult would know running around with madonna while your married just MIGHT get you in the newspaper. Than they spend a billion on a Homerun launching pad. very very funny!!!

I just cheer for the Red Socks because they spun off to spawn the Milwaukee Braves which later became the Atlanta Braves.

That that little bit of history was interesting.

Yankees pay roll-$201,449,189.00

New yankee stadium-1.1 billion dollars

yankees record-10-10

watching the redsox sweep the yankees.......priceless

before you say anything about the redsox payroll its only $121,745,999

why didnt the yankees spend some cash and buy posada some redbull so he can stay awake at home plate and maybe get ellsbury out next time.

How does relaying the history of the Braves = having a big mouth or have anything to do with the fact that I was in my late 20s when you were born?

Boston Braves, Milwaukee Braves, Atlanta Braves.... To me I think that makes for a good rivalry.

Amazing, Yanks are on a win streak and not a word from the haters. I understand, theres no need to say anything good about a team thats pulling themselves together.
