Send a friendly. We'll be glad to tear you a new anus.

Note - we came within 3 points of beating Halifax severely outleveled.

Your 1 season in CPL shouldn't be a podium for you to jump up and down on to sing your own praise.

Not to mention that the person you are talking to also GM's a team in Africa Pro, and he's carrying far more "accomplishment" trophies then you are....

Are you kidding? Why don't you go look at the game film and see "how in the hell that is possible".
We dominated.

Credit where credit is due.

Yeah I don't think we have the leveled up slow build depth like the RMoG did in Africa A-1.. but we'll do as best we can. We just hope to compete with all the great teams in the league. It's a tough one.

At least you have a chance here as opposed to the Pro league you failed in and ran from.

Second round is probably about how far you get here as well.

Not picking on Drew, but rather just sort of taking the opportunity to let some of the newer teams know the scoop about "level talk" as we had it driven down our throats last year by a team that has since departed.

We don't give a shit about people sounding off about how they were so out leveled and lost or how they slaughtered a team that out leveled them by an average of 20 levels.

"Levels" in this game mean just about jack right now for determining how good a player is. The big questions come down to builds and how much slow building went on for a given player.

A level 24 can go anyplace from being able to outplay a level 30, barely able to hang in against another level 24 to getting owned by another level 24.

So the bottom line is any bragging about how your low life level xyz owned another player 50 bazzilion levels higher than him is very hollow and has no basis just because of levels. This also goes for any excuses about how xyz team just so out levels you that they kicked your ass.

Play the game, learn from the mistakes, fix them the best you can. Give grats to the other team for winning. They did something right in beating you even if you don't like to acknowledge it. Get even next time you play them.

You're wrong. A higher level player obviously has had a greater number of SP's to allocate. If a lower level player or team beats them, then they're obviously the better managed or better built team. I'd consider that an accomplishment.

What's funny is the APL team I GM could be considered a farm team for our SA AAA team. They aren't the main focus of our efforts obviously. The Waxers, on the other hand, are a season 4 team that will go from A to Pro in 4 seasons.

I'm not a huge fan of APL, and CPL is mostly overrated by the loud forums they sport. Having a "Pro" tag doesn't mean squat in the grand scheme of things. I know quite a few AA-AAA teams that could destroy a large number of Pro teams.

But certainly, if a team is full of level 38+ players they'll be doing well in a AA league...

Ah.. we got us a rocket scientist here! First, I will grant that the higher level player has had more SP's to spend. That technically gives them an obvious advantage. What you fail to take into account are slow builds (along with the associated training advantage that goes along with it) and the effect they have on the overall points a player has. You also fail to take into account that by soft capping as quickly as possible, regardless of immediate player performance, that you gain a SP advantage for down the road because as your guy levels up, he gets "free" points in his primary stats. Each "free" point there will save at least 2 SP's than if you were responsible for making the player ready to play on a competitive level as quickly as possible.

If there was such a huge advantage of ripping off a 3 level boost to get those 15 extra SP's as quickly as possible in the teens and twenties then why do people wait until the end of the season to boost? That is because they are after more stats and to gain both a training advantage and a stat advantage. If this was not the case then why slow build and wait on boosting?

If your level 24 player has 400 total skill points and my level 30 has 375, then who is better than who? The 24 has the advantage and also the greater potential, but it took them longer to become a "real" player. I think over time, everyone has learned that if you have the time, then slow build is the way to go. There are plenty of "how to slow build" posts all over the forums. Part of the issue is that when the game started, those ideas and concepts did not exist. They came into being over a period of time. Older players had to learn by trial and error and don't forget that the game has changed over time as well. What was a great build 3 seasons ago probably is not so hot right now. (Just ask all those off the hook speed DE's).

So in short, I am correct as far as it is more of a measure of a player to look at the total of their stats as a more accurate prediction of their game strength than their level because the total can vary so much from player to player, even those of the same level. It is no accident that a level 24 slow build can hang with a level 30 regular player that elected to boost early each season. They both probably have about the same amount of total stats. Now, what a person elects to do with those stats and how game planning works around it will also have a huge impact on the overall strength of a player/team as well.

Bottom line is levels are pretty meaningless except to indicate when it is time to buy gear.

It is. Players that outplay people 5+ levels above them is an accomplishment. But thats not always the case. People that slow build their players get the advantage of a fantastic build, over those who haven't slow built. Overtime they aquire much more SP than a person who hasn't slow built of their level would at the same level. But they've been much more responsible with their builds and they deserve it.

In our case, thats not what happened. We beat them by 42 points as those who outlevel their opponents should, so there's nothing to brag about here

last year I would have agreed with you more-so than this season.. this season is much more about balanced builds.. im just sick of all the changes..

when your outleveled 10+ levels at every position, its damn near impossible to compete especially when we are unboosted with most of us without level 24 gear.

Were not gonna lay down, but with this season's Sims, its not gonna be a cakewalk.

The CPL team we came from was in CPL for two years and we were a home playoff team both years. That is hardly "failing".

Then the owner of that team decided he no longer had time to have a team anymore and decided to sell the team. 7-10 agents from that team decided they would like to stay together and join a different team. Icky was the only player on the team that currently owned a team, so we joined his team.

We didn't come here to "beat up on weaklings" this happened to be the league Icky's team was in so that is where we are playing. If it was an AAA league we would have played there.

We are far from that team that competed the past two years in CPL only about 35-40% of that team is still intact, some of the hardest hit areas being 1 of 5 DTs, 1 of 6 WRs and 2 of 6 CBs ( some of the hardest positions to recruit as well ). We have high level players, but not much depth.

If you want to hate on us, knock yourself out. We are simply looking for team to play together on and have fun together, in a fairly competitive league. I think we have found that here( and since people think we will lose in the 2nd round of the playoffs, obviously we aren't out of place here ).
