I think we just have to agree to disagree:

I think a team gets hosed when they are treated unfairly or the rules are not applied equally to the two teams.

You think a team gets hosed if the rules are applied evenly, but not "fairly" - meaning the rules are arbriged in respect to both teams.

Fair enough. You can have your definition if you want, you're just not going to convince me it's correct

Ok guys time to get back on the Tread topic here. It is about season 5 playoffs. We have some very huge games tomorrow and we need to talk about that not about what happened 10 years again IRL.

I'm nervous as hell going up against Marcy I think they might of been looking past us when we beat them and we have gotten there attention......Good luck to us

yeah, I am nervous about going up against Tottenham. We beat them and I'm not sure how cuz no one else did for a long time... so they are certainly going to be looking for revenge - if we got lucky the first time, it will be tough to duplicate again!

No, I mean things he was undeniably wrong about, not just differences of opinion. We have a difference of opinion about whether or not Dublin got hosed, but it is a fact that equal treatment and fair treatment do not mean the same thing.

I agree that equal and fair are not the same, but in the GLB context, if two teams are treated equally, it IS FAIR, right?

Uh ... you just acknowledged that equal and fair aren't the same, but then you want me to agree that they are the same here. Why would they be the same here if they aren't the same anywhere else? They aren't the same in GLB either.

For Dublin to have been hosed, Lewisburg would have to have gotten an advantage over them, not GLB getting an advantage over them

No. Lewisburg benefited from a flaw in the game's programming. It was not Lewisburg's fault by any means, but the time per pass play in GLB is wrong and it did end up costing Dublin a playoff win. The fact that it has also cost other teams wins, perhaps including previous Dublin opponents, does not change the fact that it's still wrong.

Problem is that you have exactly proved my point - he called a large strike zone for everyone. It was even on both sides.

Ugh. Having to repeat myself because people don't understand the concepts the first time gives me a headache. The fact that both teams were subject to the disadvantage doesn't make it "fair," so no, I proved my point and showed why your argument is invalid. Have you heard the old saying, "two wrongs don't make a right"? If something is not being done properly and it affects an outcome, then that is unquestionably unfair, even if both teams have to deal with it.

The Braves did not get hosed.

Check articles from 1997 because almost everyone on the planet disagrees with you. It was a scandal precisely because the Braves did get "hosed." That's why it was covered so relentlessly in the sports media, because it was outrageous and unacceptable. If anyone considered it "fair" because both teams were subject to Gregg's absurd strike zone, then it wouldn't have caused such a stir. I think you know that and you're just being stubborn because you don't want to admit that you're fully aware of the fact that equal treatment and fair treatment are not at all the same thing.

First, anyone relying on GLB mirroring real life is obviously not paying attention.

GLB isn't going to be a perfect simulation of the NFL or college or any other level of football, but it is intended to be an accurate representation of football. That's why we don't have players with jet packs or guns. That's why you have four downs to gain ten yards. GLB is intended to represent conventional, real life football, which is why so many of us play it. When GLB does something completely at odds with real football, people usually have a problem with that.

Second, if you watch game film ever (five seasons worth now), you will see that 2 and 3 second plays happen all the time

Actually Bort made plays take a shorter amount of time for Season 5 because people were complaining that they took too long and interfered with comebacks at the end of games. I and apparently others believe that he took that correction too far.

Third, we can't specifically game plan anything that makes it more or less likely our players will be able to stop the other team on an elongated clock based on very short plays

Of course you can. Are you a DC? Do you not have late 4th quarter specific settings?

so JD - no response to this?

and one more thing - I think it takes quite a big ego to believe that you are so "right" that anyone else that disagrees with you is wrong and knows they are wrong and are just being stubborn to avoid agreeing with you. Get a grip and get over yourself.

we have a genuine difference of opinion. I don't mind it and I like having the discussion. But I can't discuss this with you anymore because you are unreasonable. Admit that there is no right or wrong on this issue, admit that it is possible for me to genuinly disagree with you, and admit that by continuing to discuss with you I'm not just being stubborn and I will agree that you are not completely irrational.

md, you use Firefox? I suggest getting greasemonkey, there is a script where you can just ignore him. It truly saves a lot of frustration, this guy gets his rocks off starting arguements. If you dont' have firefox I suggest downloading it and trying it out, it's much better than IE IMO.

you obviously have not seen OUR 2 minute drill.........jeez, you have way too much time trying to discredit us......STILL.

I have an enormous ego, in large part because I've earned it, but it would take too long to explain all the reasons why and you presumably wouldn't care anyway. The best comparison I can make is to the character House. He's fun to watch on TV, less so in real life. But when I am actually wrong about something, and that does happen, I will admit it. Most people don't. Most people react to being wrong with defensiveness, denial, and outlandish statements. That last part is what showed that you actually knew that you were wrong. You weren't just arguing your point like at the beginning. By the end, you were saying absurd things in an attempt to justify your initial argument.

Admit that there is no right or wrong on this issue

So you're saying that I'm wrong about there being a right and wrong? If there is no right or wrong then how can I be wrong about that? Interesting conundrum you have there. But no, you've already admitted that there is a difference between equal treatment and fair treatment. You admitted that and then you tried to change your mind and pretend that there is no difference. That inconsistency again shows that you not only are wrong, but that you're aware that you're wrong.

No offense, but I don't care what you do and don't agree with. Your consent or agreement are both irrelevant. The only thing that matters is what's actually correct.

In any case, you need to focus on this statement I made earlier:
"We have a difference of opinion about whether or not Dublin got hosed, but it is a fact that equal treatment and fair treatment do not mean the same thing."

So as I said, you can make a valid argument that Dublin didn't get hosed and we can disagree about that. What you cannot do is continue to pretend that equal treatment and fair treatment are the same. That is not a difference of opinion, it is factually wrong.

dreven:
LL annoys me, but I don't care one way or another about anyone else on the Dragons. The fact is that you guys won under very unusual, very unrealistic circumstances. My concern over that has nothing to do with who owns the team and everything to do with not wanting my players to lose the same way sometime in the future.
