It's almost the start of a new Senior League season! This weekend was a 3 day weekend for me so a took a second and copied all the schedule data into excel and now I can do statistical analysis!
To start with, let's look at the head to head matchups this first week and historical performances:
Phoenix vs. Cincinnati: Phoenix leads the series 20-9-1; 7 of Phoenix's losses have come at Cincinnati, but unfortunately for the Dinosaurs this season's game is in Phoenix. Phoenix has never lost the season series against Cincinnati.
Leeds vs. Hartford: Leeds leads the series 17-13, but that's a recent development as they've won the last 6. Hartford has a chance to get back on track this season, but a strong Leeds team could be a challenge.
Saskatoon vs. Louisville: Saskatoon leads 17-13; but they have to be itching for revenge after losing the season series to Louisville in S21. This has been a rivalry defined by streaks; Saskatoon started by winning 6 straight in Seasons 10-12; Louisville answered with 5 straight of their own, and Saskatoon came right back with another 7 straight. Saskatoon started off poorly, going 1-5 in the first 3 seasons, but since then has earned a commanding lead.
Houston vs. Jacksonville: Houston leads 19-11. Not what I expected as Houston is hardly a power team, but they've beat Jacksonville almost 2/3rds of the games they've played. This is especially obvious in the last few seasons as Houston is 6-1 in recent history. Houston has been terrible in the last few seasons, but not against Jacksonville.
Eugene vs New York: Eugene leads 20-9-1; Eugene is definitely a power team and it shows against New York, one of the historically weaker teams. Eugene has shut New York out 5 times, while never failing to score against the Lindy Hoppers. Over the first 10 seasons, Eugene had a 16-4 lead, but New York has made it interesting since then.
Washington vs Nashville: Washington leads 25-4-1. This is lopsided and ugly. The Wrinkles have crushed the Naps, scoring more than 20 in almost half their games. There doesn't seem to be a light at the end of the tunnel for the Naps, as they get weaker while Washington continues to stay at the top.
