This is too vague. In terms of the sim, what benefits would this provide?

Alright, here are a few thoughts on things I've read:

Hulk(SAGA45): I know you've done a bit of reworking to it, but I like the original concept. Instead of being a "bonus" for getting hit, perhaps just a % reduction to the morale loss? Could rename this to "Tough Runner" and do "Reduces the morale effect of Big Hit/Monster Hit by 2% per level". This would make a fully maxed VA -30% penalty to the morale loss of BigHit/Monster Hit. Would be a decent reduction, but those SAs would still have a decent effect on the runner. Too many of those and you're not going to feel too good, so the reduction shouldn't be very signficant

Broken Will(SAGA45): Again, I like this. Would we put it as a +3% chance to reduce defenders morale by an additional -3 when breaking a tackle, and double the effect of Power Through/Lower the Shoulder/Juke/Head Fake? This would basically be an offensive version of Helmet Crash. You had a confidence/stamina requirement on this didn't you, or was that for Hulk? I think we'd need a confidence requirement on this, and possibly add a confidence requirement to Helmet Crash as well.

Bad Memory(SAGA45):
I think we should rename this "Short Term Memory" instead of "Bad Memory". People often refer to needing a short term memory in sports to sort of "forget" the bad things. This could be a viable option, too. Would need a confidence requirement, though. Also, I think this should only apply to turnovers. What do you think? Possibly a 3% reduction to morale penalty, per level? Would almost cut the morale penalty in half if maxed out.

Awe Inspiring(defense) - This player inspires awe in younger players. Each level of this gives a +5% chance to cause a -20% catching penalty to less famous receivers who they line up to play man to man against

Underdog(defense) - Nobody gives this player any respect. Each level of this gives a +5% chance to cause a -20% catching penalty to more famous receivers who they line up to play man to man against

I like the idea of making Awe Inspiring and UnderDog available for the defense. The defensive one, though, should affect the offensive player's confidence. I'm assuming that's a factor in hauling in passes.

The offensive versions of AI and UD make sense, since the defender may focus on the receiver more (AI) and not the QB, because he's nervious, or focus on him less (UD) and let him possibly get the jump on him because he doesn't respect him. Vision is the appropriate skill to affect for the offensive version.

However, on defense, I think a different skill should be impacted. Awe Inspiring for D should lower the receiver's confidence, perhaps +5% chance to cause a 20% reduction in confidence? Basically a mirror version of the offense, but applied to confidence.

Now, the defensive version of UD is slightly different. If a receiver is up against a big name CB, he might be intimidated, lowering his confidence. But, if he's up against somebody he's not intimidated by, he's not really going to be getting a penalty, so either we do away with UD for defense, or we turn it into a boost for the player. Thoughts?

Road Warrior: This has been suggested by a couple people, mainly kblitz . My thoughts on this:

I like road warrior. Some players aren't affected by the 'home field advantage', and play just fine. Some TEAMS play great on the road. Since we don't have team VAs, we'll stick with the players.

I agree that this shouldn't be an exact mirror of Hometown Hero, but possibly copy the template, and reduce the bonuses.

Hometown Hero: This player is loved by the fans. Each level of Hometown Hero gives a +1 bonus to confidence and a +1% bonus to stamina when playing at home.

Road Warrior: This player steps his game up when traveling. Each level of Road Warrior gives a +0.5 bonus to confidence and a +0.5 bonus to stamina when playing on the road.

Thoughts?

Prerequisite---50 tck, 50 vis

I like this idea, but what about taking of the "run only" requirement and adjusting the description like this:

Open Field Tackler: This player is adept at making the tackle in space. Each level of Open Field Tackler gives the defender a +2% bonus to avoiding fakes, and a +1% bonus to making the tackle when the runner is outside the tackles and/or more than three yards past the LOS. Does not apply to pass coverage.

Requirement: 50 Tackling, 50 Vision

Basically the CB version of the receiver VA Go To Guy. If the CB's on a team are fairly equal it would be a poor VA choice, but if a team has an excellent CB who would otherwise never be targeted due to a much higher risk value then the other corners on the team, it may be worth a few points.

I like it. What do you think of:

Baiting the Throw: This defender knows how to lure the QB into throwing the ball into coverage. Each level of Baiting the Throw gives a +2% bonus to luring the QB to throw into coverage, and +2% chance to deflect the pass when in Man coverage.

This could be one of those "iffy" VAs. Players might want to invest in it to increase the chances of the QB making a bad throw and getting more deflections, but if they aren't physically able to keep up with their receiver or disrupt the pass, then this could bite them in the ass. I like it.

I like this, any idea about requirements or % increases?

Too Tall: This player has a knack for disrupting passing lanes. Each level of Too Tall gives a +5% chance to deflect a pass when rushing the quarterback.

The key requirement would be "when rushing the quarterback". Should we make this a DL exclusive skill?

min - 40 Confidence

I like the idea, but I don't like the bonus to catching. Perhaps only give the receiver a bonus to finding the soft spot in the zone? How would this be implemented, though? I like the 1% vision bonus, though.

I just thought of a new one:

Mr. Physic: This player can almost see critical plays coming before they happen. On 3rd & long and 4th downs or when the score is within 7 points this player recieves a boost in confidence, vision and stamina by .7%.

This could work for both offense at calling blitzes and on defense on calling the play. Or it could be used just for QBs, and Linebackers.

Anything can be tweaked to help it out.

Psychic.

I'm not sure about this idea. Remember, VAs should be realistic, things that you'd see on a regular basis in 'real life'. Being psychic isn't really a skill you can develop by playing football for a long time. Things like Road Warrior, Hulk, etc. are abilities that can develop over your career as you are put in certain situations and adapt to them.

The only way I'd see something like this working is if a play is run frequently, but the repeat play penalty takes care of that. Proper scouting will also help with this.

Clutch also helps out on 3rd and 4th down by giving an 'unknown' bonus to certain rolls and/or abilities.

Perhaps we could work on a blitz pick up VA for the OL, since there is one for HBs/FBs, and maybe a "Quick Read" for defense to assist with passing the vision check to recognize the play quicker.
