It's a layer of comfortableness, where I can go on a vacation or wherever and have no worry about a big payment going on a card. Back when I was finishing my masters, I even put tuition on one of the cards since I could get a % cashback. It was essentially free money in my hands for paying tuition with the card as opposed to writing a check.

from my experience most colleges/universities tack on a % fee for using a credit card, which wipes out just about any cashback bonus you would be getting

I carry a Debit card and a credit card. Only signed up for the credit card because if you spent a certain amount in the first month you got 2 free plane tickets, so I put my tuition on it and cleared the amount for the reward. Now that the annual fees are going to kick in its time to cancel it and not have a credit card. Traveling so much for work I wouldnt want to use it anyway due to the fact i may not be able to pay my bill on time.

I used to have one with a $99 annual fee, but I got 2.9% back on every dollar I spent on it.

One term's tuition was enough to pay for the annual fee and then some. All I needed to spend was $3,413.79 a year on that card to cover the annual fee.

Also it was a pretty platinum card. And unlike investing, it immediately gave me more social clout.

How much back on tuition?

Because the $12,000 a year I paid in tuition got me $348 back, which more than paid for the $99 a year I was paying for it.

Me either. Never have, never will. Cash is king. Plus I never liked the idea of spending money that isn't mine and then having to pay back more than what I spent.

well, you dont have to pay back more than you spent, if you pay it off every month. i basically just pay less for stuff than you do.

I don't do loans either, which is what I was speaking more towards with that comment.

And someday when you need credit, the rates that they offer you are probably going to be terrible.
