The assertion is not that they never had intercourse, it's that they were too genetically different to produce viable offspring.

Was reading about Neanderthals, and interbreeding with modern humans. People say it's unlikely, despite the fact that they lived in the same area for around 5,000 years. Not much compared the the estimated 250,000 year timespan of the Neanderthals existence, right?

But when you considering that all recorded history is approximately the same time frame of 5,000 years...it's crazy.

Like, think about everything you know about history. Dark Ages, Pharaohs, various empires taking over large swaths of the world. Various Native American tribes, the Mayans, Aztecs. Pirates. Industrial Age. Kings and Queens. Space flight. Landing on the moon. Rovers on different planets. Nuclear bombs.

All of that happened in the same time frame as Neanderthals and modern humans living in the same relative area. Kind of weird thinking that there might not have been interbreeding between the two species. It's insane thinking what can happen in that small blip in the timeframe of life.

How come some of those DNA type companies give you an output of Neanderthal relic type DNA? 'Unlikely' seems like something that's very different than some scientists believe and measure.

Well, I use an alias, that would help. Still, though... Damn you guys shooting holes in my pipe dream!

I find many of the gaps in what we think we know about history to be fascinating. Lost civilizations, technological advances that are lost for hundreds or thousands of years, etc.

Definitely do not want to discourage. I think if you have a burning passion for selling insurance, you should do it.

The best guess that I've read is that male neanderthals + modern women produced viable offspring, but the opposite did not.

The main argument that there was no crossbreeding is mitochondrial DNA.

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/high-school-basketball-teams-try-142428020.html

Two high-school girls basketball teams from Tennessee were kicked out of the state's district playoffs after a report from the game's referee said both schools "played to lose the game,"

According to the report, both teams, Riverdale and Smyrna, were going to advance to the next round of the playoffs no matter what because of the way the tournament was structured. The winner would have faced the defending state and national champions Blackman in the next round. The loser would have faced a lesser opponent in the next round and faced an easier path to the district finals.

On paper, each team had an incentive to lose and avoid Blackman.

player who stood in the lane and begged for a three-second violation
player who intentionally shot at the wrong basket

the team refused to advance the ball past half-court to get a 10-second violation and at another time intentionally committed an over-and-back violation.

Curling is the whitest thing ever. I just got back from a week of watching live curling, and I spotted 6.5 non-white people. Two of those were football players in to promote the local CFL team during the offseason.
