Dont wanna do a massive string of posts or a mega quote but to respond to everyone, I was using a dumbbell. Im going to switch over to barbells because I have a bench that's older than I am and it doesn't recline unfortunately. Mechanically it would make sense that barbells would work out much more of the pecs when I get back around to them.

I didn't lose feeling in the medial part of my pecs, they just didnt feel worked at all. And the lateral insertions into the shoulder felt more "This is wrong" pain than "good workout" pain

Since my bench doesn't recline Im gunna work some inclined pushups into my circuit, thanks for the tip

Barbells work fewer muscles than dumbbells.

You can generally do more weight, and concentrate on the targeted muscles more, but you lose a lot of stabilizing activation.

I've actually been doing one arm dumbbell bench presses recently, get a lot of core activation while balancing on the bench.

Those, and straight arm dumbbell pullovers. Love the stretch and burn from those.

Dumbbell pullovers have been a long-time favorite. Solid for your core, too, especially if you curl your wrists forward through the pull. It's one of the big exercises for javelin throwers. Any kind of throwing motion actually.

I was thinking barbells were the smaller individual ones, my b

Alright even though it's leg day and my pecs still hurt I decided to throw in a quick 10 rep low weight dumbbell bench, and I can already tell the difference. It's much less sore than the full barbell is, I feel a hell of a lot more in my shoulders and triceps, and I do feel the inner part of my pecs at least stretching. Major ups to yall for the tip.

New question: What is the purpose of the barbell bench, what advantages does it give? To be able to brag you can bench however much?

They need more reps with less weight. Lifting too much using terrible technique is not going to help a fatass.

Since you can life "more" that way (since it requires less of your effort to stabilize the weight more of your effort can be applied to pushing the weigh upwards), you can hit that one strip of muscle harder than with dumbells. But overall I think dumbells are much better for the 99 percent of us that don't do 12 different chest exercises per chest day.

Bought a CharBroil Propane Gas Grill today (NOT the infrared). So, now I have a large charcoal pit for flavor, smoking, and large gatherings and a medium-sized gas grill for convenience.

Gonna grill some chicken breasts for salads tonight! So enthused!

Semi-workout related question:

I get about 5 1/2 hours of sleep a night, 4 on a bad night, 7-8 on a great night, will working out give me more inherent energy to the point that my lack of sleep will matter less and I'll feel more naturally awake and alert?
