From the looks of things around here I'm assuming no one lives in Mexico.

You can always drop back 10 and punt.

Translation: Learn Spanish, and learn to love Mexican food. I'm sure you must have at least 5 Mexican restaurants by now.

Quick question to anyone who works out or knows more than I do here:

I recently (very recently, like a week ago) started working out again. I started benching which I was never really fan of and never did extensively, and now the outside of my pecs where they insert into my shoulder hurt and I feel absolutely nothing at all in the middle or medial portions of the pec. Am I doing something wrong or is that what the bench does? I dont wanna be fucking myself up and not even helping

Just load ten of them up into a truck and tell them you are taking them to a work site.

Then drive over the Mexican border, when they stop you at the border just tell them you would like to return these, and no you don't have your receipt.

You might try using dumbells instead of a barbell. Then go slowly and when you're at the top of your exertion you should be able to tell that the center of your pecs are firing.

Do you mean "feel absolutely nothing" as in you don't have the post workout burn, or you actually lost feeling? If it's the latter, that probably isn't good.

Bench press, especially with a barbell, don't really hit the full chest. It's mostly the outer chest, front delts, and triceps. Dumbbells will hit some more because you need more stabilizing muscles. A machine will hit less because there's zero stabilizing muscles.

If you're really wanting to burn your chest try some flys.

So you're just wanting to tone up, and not build muscle?

Normal. You're going to naturally have those muscles tire out faster having not worked out. You're not fucking yourself up.

Your pec is actually two muscles (major and minor, basically your upper pec and your lower pec). And your shoulders are going to come into play, too. For your lower pecs I'd recommend integrating some decline dumbbell presses over time. Incline push-ups are good too.

Since you're breaking back into things, I'd also recommend you integrate some dumbbell flies as more of a stretch than anything. Don't worry about the weight, just really focus on the stretching of your pecs as you move through the motion. You can even give your elbows a 90 degree bend. You'll feel a really nice stretch in those upper parts of your pec that you're feeling the tightness/soreness in.
