The food truck will be working 77 straight days this winter, including X-Mas and New Year's day. It will not stop my grandmother from asking why I did not come to visit...

IF she's within driving distance, drop by anyway--its worth it no matter how tired you might be. You only get one shot in life with people you love.

She is about 90 minutes away from home, and about 2 hours from where I will be working. If I did not have my aunt living with me, it would be more feasible. As it is, I will be running straight home to relieve the caregiver who comes in.

Pay the caregiver a Christmas bonus and go see your grandmother. Ask the caregiver in advance "What night can you do me a huge favor?" and then when you come back make it worth the caregiver's time for having done the extra work. She'll (the caregiver) be THRILLED that you went over the top with a bonus she never saw coming--she probably needs the money this time of year. And you will never know how much it meant to your grandmother that you came by. You'll be very tired that night, but you will sleep peacefully.

It probably will not be Christmas day, simply because that is going to be a long day for the truck, but I am gonna try to set something up on a short day either just before or just after. I have considered sending someone to pick her up, as she has never been to the truck, then I could take her back.

That's fine too. Just make sure to arrange it with her EARLY--that way she knows that she's on your priority list and she'll end up bragging that you are "SOOOO busy but you're just dying to see her and went out of your way to make it happen!". She'll love it. Seriously.

We'll see if she actually loves it. My parents and I have pretty much accepted that we try to do things to make her happy to satisfy our own souls, as she is not really the appreciative type.
When I was remodeling my house, she would not stop talking about what a shame it was that I was throwing out the cabinets. She just had to have them. As a Christmas gift, we took the cabinets to her. My father and a friend tore out her cabinets and installed my former ones. My parents bought her a couple additional cabinets to make everything fit right in her kitchen, and I bought the counter top. The fact that it took nearly two weeks is all we heard about.
When she came to visit my place after the remodel was done, she stared at the dark gray granite and remarked that she could never have that in her kitchen because you would not be able to see ants on it...

Tell her to come cook in the truck for a day.
On my Ukrainian stepfamily side, my Baba is 87 and she still cooks a full Ukrainian meal for the family twice a year.
