For those that doesn't have the time, I will dig up a post bachus posted in the epic suggestion thread that tells the whole story.
Edit, coming soon.
Here it is, from bacchuspoet in this thread (
http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=2672268&page=5):Satch was banned briefly during the ROITS of South America. This occurred during August of last year. The reason for the ROITS... well, I won't go into detail with THat. But briefly... it had to do wiTH a mod abusing power, banning people, deleting THreads... it was a disaster. Satch stood up for the many that were banned and was banned himself despite doing nothing wrong. Literally, nothing wrong. Once all that blew over, Bort actually made Satch a mod whose area of responsibility was almost exclusively the SA boards. He continued in that capacity for about a month or so until his illness caught up with him and he was hospitalized. Not sure exactly what the complication was, but Satch has multiple sclerosis. He had to retire from GLB because, and someone PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong here because I really don't want to spread misinformation about this matter, I think he slipped into a coma. If not, then he was severely incapacitated to the point where he couldn't even communicate with his nephew who was actually typing forum responses for Satch. Basically, he had to retire from GLB because his illness took a turn for the worse and they didn't think that he was going to recover.
The reasons Satch was loved by so many are numerous. He developed the spreadsheet that predicts end of season standings that is still in use in various leaques around GLB. And he gave it to absolutely anyone that asked. He was an innovative player builder that truly thought outside the box when it came to developing various types of players. But most importantly perhaps, was the way Satch shared his knowledge and theories so completely freely with anyone and everyone that asked. He had the rare quality among MMORPG players that is called a complete lack of ego. He conducted himself at all times, and I mean at all times (even when under completely unjustified attack by a mod), with complete class. He would be the first person to post a gg thread after a loss, and he would be sincere about it. Basically, he was the GLB version of the Renaissance Man. A hell of a guy, a great player, and generous to a fault. You can't find anyone, except for one former mod, who would say a single bad word about Satch. And even THat former mod would probably still say he respected the man.
In short, he was a guy that was very special to SA, but someone that impacted all of GLB through his generosity of spirit, his sense of personal responsibility, and courage in facing his disease but never once using it as a crutch or any sort of excuse. He's someone that I personally admire very much and think that renaming this little corner of GLB in his honor is very fitting.
