That was a surprising loss for my favorite East team (aside from VV, of course). Has NERC really improved that much? If so, congrats.

That game, as well as VV's upset, shows that while level rankings are a decent indicator of talent, they're not perfect by any means.

Allright everyone i was lucky enough to sit down with the current sack leader in the Eastern conference.
This raw converstation was all recorded, just for you.
Interview with Grumpy Dwarf of the New England Red Celtic!

*Skit
1.Your currently leading your team, and your conference in sacks with 5, just 2 behind the league leader. What do you think is helping you so much to pile up these sacks so early on in the season?

*Dwarf
All of the sacks came in Game 1 against the Seabrook Energy and there's a good reason why. That bastard Philip Rasner (their starting Right Guard) cut me off on the Freeway.... Nobody cuts Grumpy Dwarf off.

*Skit
2. Last year you only had 2 sacks the entire season. Whats the big difference?

*Dwarf
Ever since Snow White bailed on me to go with that faggoty Prince I've been dealing with a lot of pent up frustration. What's that look on your face? Oh you think I have a small penis because I'm a dwarf? Do you? Huh? Well I'll show you.. (Moves to pull down trousers) Oh what's that? You don't need to see? That's what I fucking thought, you probably don't want to be reminded of how small your cock is (Pulls pants back up).

*Skit
3. Your playing for the NERC and their not that highly rated, but you guys have played great football so far, what do you think is the biggest factor for your team to continue to do well.

*Dwarf
I'm highly rated, nuff' said.

*Skit
4. Since your get so much sacks are you thinking of some quick showboating entertainment move right after a sack? If you are can it give Shawne Merriman a run for his little moves?

*Dwarf
I've been considering taking a page out of Albert Haynesworth's book and just stomping on the QB's head. Penalties aren't implemented in this game yet right?

*Skit
5. It seems like your the leader of the defense, what great would you compare yourself too?

*Dwarf
I am the fucking greatest, there is no comparison. I'm fucking 238 years old, weight 100 lbs, and I'm not even 5 feet tall; yet I am one of the leaders in the conference in sacks? I try to tell all the other dumb fucks on defense what to do, but those stupid kids just shake their head at me. "Oh he's just a Disney character, he doesn't know anything about football." Fuck them. Did you ever the "Little Giants"? Do you think Bill Walsh or Mike Martz could think up a genius play like The Annexation of Puerto Rico? I didn't fucking think so. Fuck those kids, they gotta learn some respect; and hey, while I'm at it, a big fuck you to you as well for keeping me up so fucking late. Do you realize I have to wake up at fucking 9:30 to get to practice? That Bosox is a Nazi, people my age need to get some fucking sleep. I don't even have time to go to McDonalds to hang out with the other gentleman my age. Fuck all of you guys, I'm out of here.... Oh yeah, go NERC.

We really worked to improve all areas of our game in the off-season. We gained a lot of players via free agency and we really like the group of guys we've assembled and the depth we were able to put together. Last year we were aiming for a .500 record at best. This year we really believe we can play deep into the playoffs. The East is completely loaded though so it won't be an easy task but we believe that LLLL is one of the best in the East so we like it as a measuring stick. It was a great game.

What’s going on everyone? Sorry no update on Friday I was interested in the Olympics And rightfully so, Michael Phelps is doing great did anyone see that men’s 100 meter relay! USA!! Either way I got another fun filled column for you, and the main question being do you think your overpaying for your stars?

Memphis River Rats: $4,838,000.00
PTT Villagers: $4,437,200.00
Arlington Avengers: $4,206,440.00
Lizard Lick Lizard Lickers: $4,186,600.00
New Orleans Fanboys: $4,148,440.00
Washington Slashers: $4,006,240.00
Tennessee Fury: $3,753,000.00
New England Red Celtics: $3,653,080.00
Buffalo Daggers: $3,591,360.00
Philadelphia Wolves: $3,565,600.00
Dearborn Bullitt: $3,389,640.00
Sconnie Badgers: $3,359,960.00
Viridian Vanguards: $3,172,040.00
Seabrook Energy: $2,903,080.00
Full Moon Blue Wolf: $1,819,320.00
Tecmo All Stars: $1,809,000.00

Eastern Conference Standings Wins Losses

Washington Slashers: 5 0
Arlington Avengers: 5 0
Sconnie Badgers: 4 1
Tennessee Fury: 4 1
Philadelphia Wolves: 3 2
Memphis River Rats: 3 2
New England Red Celtics: 3 2
New Orleans Fanboys: 3 2
Lizard Lick Lizard Lickers: 2 3
Dearborn Bullitt: 2 3
Buffalo Daggers: 2 3
PTT Villagers: 2 3
Viridian Vanguards: 1 4
Full Moon Blue Wolf: 1 4
Seabrook Energy: 0 5
Tecmo All Stars: 0 5

Looking at the standings in the Eastern Conference we have two teams that are on a roll, Washington Slashers and Arlington Avengers. You would think that they would be in the high bank roll with good level talent, seeing as Washington Slashers are 2nd highest in offense and defense and the Arlington Avengers has the most talented team in the conference, not to mention 1st in offense and defense. So when I see these kinds of stats I think $$$, but honestly that’s not the case.

Just looking at the payroll the two mentioned teams are up there in salary but not in 1st or 2nd. In fact Arlington Avengers are the 3rd highest paid team at $4,206,440. That’s about $600,000 less then Memphis River Rats paying their players $4,838,000 and are 3 – 2 in the East and has the 3rd most talent in the league. what’s going wrong with that picture, seeing as Washington Slashers are 6th in Total Salary only paying their players $4,006,240 which is $200,000 less then their current rivals Arlington Avengers, and $800,000 less then Memphis River Rats.

You would also be surprised to see Sconnie Badgers and Philadelphia Wolves pay way below avg (10th in payroll) here and still be in the top 4 in standings 3rd and 5th respectively. I honestly didn’t think I would see and New England Patriots kind of team here, but Philadelphia Wolves are proving the higher bucks are not needed, and you can win on Team play!

I don’t think that the Salary stats really doing anything but show you how other teams operate and get higher players for less or vice versa, it would be interesting to keep watching what teams do in there off season and during the year it contracts and bringing people on board their teams to help them out. Till next time people, I’m out

Nice analysis, except our payroll is much larger than that. When did you collect your data?

i got it on friday.. so most likely it has changed a bit.. i did notice that some teams got some lvl 1's on their team.. so i didnt count them on the payroll. i should have an update of it in about a week.. just to let it calm down and most of the cuts and trades to go through.

For the Analysis you did, you used the correct numbers. The new numbers are due to the owner (Me) and the GM (Kurieg) sharing the teams wealth with the players. We have sent out offers to all the players upping the salary in thanks for there commitment to the team. We have not and will not try to "Buy" a championship.

Well, I didn't really add much players for Season 5. The bulk of my team are originals from Season 2. And the players that I added coming into Season 5 are owned by current player owners anyway. But I gave every single player a new salary before the season started, that is why we have such a high salary. But good info to see anyway.

FYI, I didn't buy a championship team either. If anything, I released/traded a lot of other players.

I think i touched a slight nerver her but i wasnt trying to say anyone was buying a championship.. the stats where just to show the comperison on who's paying big bucks for the value of the player.. and basicly who has lost that battle. i think both Morid and Amm879 have impressed me greatly showing that managing the salary and the players is key. neither one of you are over paying for the talent you have, and your showing that its not about the money.. just the actualy play on the field. I mean seriously look at it. Memphis River Rats: $4,838,000.00 and there 3-2, whats the deal? you guys are well below that.. and thats great to see.

Hey Jamie Brooks how are you doin?

Honestly, I'm doing great. The team is on a roll, and I'm playing the best ball I ever have in my career. I'm pretty sure I am having the time of my life!

So far you and the Washington Slashers are rolling through the Eastern Conference, how is the team spirit right now?

Unbelievable. The group of guys we have here in Washington is outstanding. Every single practice, the whole team is always there early trying to improve on the little things that win games. We can already start to notice that its paying off.

All except for 1 game your defense has been shutting cats down. how does it feel to know that you guys are playing so great and look to go 8 - 0 before your big match up with Arlington Avengers?

Our coaches teach us to strive for perfection. And we feel that this year we have the correct tools to maybe acomplish our goal. After each victory this year, I noticed that instead of going out and celebrating, majority of the team deciedes to get focused on the next week's game. I know that I'm not going to start to worry about Arlington until week 9.

You just recently became tied for 1st in the East in sacks with 6, when last year you only totalled 5. Whats the difference?

Steriods.

Ha, I'm just playing with you. Seriously. Now here's the truth. During the offseason, I got together with a couple of the coaches and discussed what I should do to try and improve. The reason I did that was because I felt that I wasn't playing up to my potential. Apparently it worked. Thanks Coaches!

Your team seems to be quiet, not giving other a reason for bulliten material, is this a coaches choice or everyone just like that?

In the begining of every single year, we are always picked to be in the middle of the pack. And so far, every year we have proved them wrong. So instead of cocking off and bragging up our team, we just let our play do our talking.

What is the goal this year for you, and the team?

I'm pretty sure that our team's goal is to win it all. Isn't that every teams goal?

My goal is to have the best defence in our whole league. Isn't the saying, "Defense wins Championships"?

I've got to addmit Jamie your play recently has been great, if you dont get injured you could end up getting around, 20 sacks and possibly 40 takles maybe even 50.. how hard are you working to get to that level?

I doubt that I will get 20 sacks, but you never know. I know that if I want to come close to reaching that number I will need to continue working on my footwork to help get around the tackles. Plus, it doesn't help the they keep on getting bigger! Have you seen one lately! just in pracitce the other day, Papa Shango went head on with me and sent me flying! I may need to start hitting the weight room also!

Thanks for taking the time out of your schedual and your training to chat with us and best of luck the rest of the way.

Well, I haven't managed the team's salary with great responsibility as I should have. I quickly overspent with stadium construction in the offseason but didn't exactly set the ticket prices a little higher during season sales. Then I handed out bonuses like candy when some of the players boosted to 24 or over it. But every player on my team is on the minimum. And everyone has assured me that they were alright about not being paid for a nightly training, etc. So that showed me that the guys I have on my team just want to win games (and as long as their player gets the playing time necessary to get high experience points). A lot of the guys have stepped up this season, taking over certain responsibilities... taking more pride in their team. So that's always a good sign.

Everyone i cant beleive i got these two interviews with the current owners of the Washington Slashers and the Arlington Avengers. With both teams doing so well early on this season and their defenses just shutting down the opponents i can honestly say that these two teams are the teams to beat in the Eastern Conference, And the best matchup of the year coming in week 9.
First will talk to Morid, the owner of the Washington Slashers!

*Skit
Thanks a whole lot for taking time out of your day to come and talk football.

The Washington Slashers are tied for 1st in the East, did you expect this quick start?

*Morid
Yes, we thought we would start strong. We have been runner up for the last two seasons and have not really lost any talent. We had a discussion this offseason to determine our identity, since then we have really worked together to get to where we are.

I have been very lucky to have such a great group of guys playing for me.

*Skit
Smokin Gun has 5 great wideouts to throw to, and they are all preforming well. Has anyone gotton upset with touches yet?

*Morid
I have not had a single complaint about receptions (thanks for pointing it out ).

Seriously, my players and management have been great. We all have one goal in mind....winning. I honestly don't even know how I could adjust things, tactics wise, to spread it out more. This game has a mind of it's own.

*Skit
You have a big match up in week 9, and you should be 8-0 when you get there, what are you doing to prepare for that match up?

*Morid
I know there is a lot of football between now and then. I wouldn't say we will be 8-0. I hope we will! To prepare for this game we will do nothing different. We plan the same for all games. Watch the same amount of film and run the same numbers.

*Skit
The Slashers are 2nd in the East in interceptions, with 9. thats really good for only 5 games. How do you keep your defense so hungary?

We feed em small children!

Actually, our D has always been our bread and butter. Kurieg is my DC and calls outstanding games. I leave all D calls up to him (with very little input from me).

*Skit
If the Washington Slashers dont win it all is this season is it a dissapointment?

*Morid
There are a lot of good teams in the league. We have been runner up for two seasons and would like to change that by winning the east. If we don't, I guess it is back to the drawing board.

*Skit
Thank you for all your time and for this interview good luck to you and your team the rest of the way.

*Morid
Anytime!

And now the interview with amm879, the owner of the Arlington Avengers!

*Skit
Not gonna lie Arlington Avengers are arguably the best team in the Eastern Conference, maybe the League.
Season 3, USA BBB #11 Eastern Conference Champ, i know you guys are happy about being that good, your currently going in the right direction and looking for another deep playoff run, If you dont make it to the Big Game is it a failure?

amm879: Our goal, as a team, is to win games and win a championship. Being a conference champion isn't the same level as being the league champion. So if at any time you don't accomplish your goal, you would have to consider that as a failure. Now, just because you fail at accomplishing your goal, it doesn't necessarily mean to give up. We'll continue to work hard and strive hard to reach our goal.

*Skit
The team as been put together very well, who in your mind is the stand out player on your team? Some would say Beau Favre, but i would actualy go with your entire Defense.

amm879: Our defense has always been our bread and butter ever since last season. Our goal this season was to improve our overall offensive play. But my coordinators have done an excellent job in finding the right tools to make our offense successful. When I'm asked to describe my players, I answer that with team. There's never one stand out player. With the way this team works, every player is important in the success of it.

*Skit
You have three real easy games before you meet the Washington Slashers for the big game in the East which is looking like the battle for the best seed in the playoffs, how are you preparing for this game?

amm879: The who? (smiles) We take each game one day at a time. We'll use our past success, game plan against an opponent's past failures, and use it against them.

*Skit
Whats your biggest concern going into the middle of the season? Cause right now it doesnt seem like there should be one.

amm879: My primary concern is making sure my players get paid for all their hard work and rest up after every game.

*Skit
Since you are undefeated and i know this is early into the year, what are you telling your players to keep them focused about the task at hand, or is everyone just thinking 16-0?

amm879: Last season, we started 8-0. There were too many talks about going undefeated. We ended that season 13-3. I always believe that every season we need to go through a tough loss so that we can better evaluate the reasons of our loss... find out what our ture weaknesses are and correct them. Because until you lose your first game, you'll only think that everything is too perfect. You know what they say about something that is too good to be true. Sometimes, it just is.

Thank you for all your time, and for this wonderful interview.
