At the end of the season nobody would have ranked the Giants higher than the Patriots, Colts, Cowboys, or Packers. Sometimes teams go on streaks. Nobody had the Rockies within 5 spots of a playoff position. They went to the World Series. Just because the rankings show teams in one way, does not mean that's necessarily how it'll end up. That's part of what make sports fun.

Thank you for the rankings stickman. I am curious about something. The "per game success factor", it appears to me that this is a gauge of offensive production? I'm only asking because if it is, then you have a factor based on offense and strength of schedule but no factor for defense. Our defense is what carried us through the season and got us as far as it did in the playoffs.

A good question built upon a good observation.

The Success points are more of less based on the offensive capabilities of a team. However, I measure these points for both teams in a game, so the lower the other team's success points are, the better your defense has played.
That's why I'm taking a differential between the two team's scores to determine the final value that I'm using for a team.
Team a success points - team B's success points = Success Factor.

So the lower you keep the other team's offense, the higher your difference will be, indicating a better team.

So I made sure not to ignore the capabilities of Defense, and found a way to include defense capability into the rankings as well.

Thanks,

EVERYTHING IS FORGIVEN.

Nah, in all seriousness. MOST of the stuff I put up in these forums, ddingo, is just button pushing.

Some people, like Makbeer for exmaple, understood that and laughed about it. Others, like MDTwerps from Baltimore didn't understand and got all antsy in his pantsy.

It's all in good fun, and this is actually a pretty good group we got here in A2. I honestly wish we could opt to keep it together rather than have teams leaving both up and down.

Anyways, looking forward to the rankings SM. They are always fun.

Please accept my virtual hug. This offer is extended to the brain behind cold veggie soup too.... unless we're forced to throttle you in the playoffs.

Very interesting results....

It slants towards offense right?

I cant tell with the 4 Best defenses in the WEST ranked in the top 5.

I understand Sin City and the Navs...they actually have top 10 offenses...but SF and DC's are more defensive teams.

Maybe this is a good way to Give proper weight to wins, by way of the quality of the team-teams they beat.

Something like Maddens awesome late surge would be hard for a statistical ranking system to predict so it cant even really be faulted for that.

I like this...... call the BCS......

Actually, I don't think really slants towards offense or defense, but gives both equal weight. Since the success points are tallied for both teams, as I said above, your defense gets credit for lowering the other teams score, where your offense gets credit for increasing your score.

I don't have the numbers in front of me right now, but my guess as to why the teams in the west take 4 of the top 5 spots is 2-fold.
1) Those are just pretty damn good teams, and they deserve to be up there.
2) The fact that they didn't play KD and sportsrant helped them in the Quality win component. The bottom 2 teams in the west had 4 wins between them. Whereas the bottom 2 in the east had 1 win. So even beating the worst teams in the west still gave you a few quality win points, where beating KD and sportsrant in the east gave almost nothing. So where having KD and sportsrant in your league is a boost to your stats (yards gain, points scored etc...), it doesn't help enough to overcome the lack of quality win points. Which I think is fair.

edit: oh yeah, I'm glad you like it enough to suggest it to the BCS instead of comparing it to the BCS.....lol

Thanks,
StickMan

Now if you would have said millimeter, your insult would have worked, since it converts to just over 1 inch.
