Here's the thing, the Oline had 106 pancakes, leaving the Lbs and secondary to make a play or else. Awwitsbobby. I realize Shutdown hasn't made that many tackles this season, but that's because very few plays get past the front 4 on our Dline. If they do, the Lbs are right there. Our secondary has the luxury of playing great coverage and also a jailhouse blitz every now and then. If I had a CB or safety with 24 tackles in one game, I would take a very close look at my front 4, and then the LBs. How are plays getting past them?

Actually a CB having no many tackles is a good thing, for example when we played you guys i had 2 tackles 5 PD's. If you look at the best CB's in GLB youll notice they dont very many tackles.

For a CB, it's more a ratio of their tackles to passes deflected. Now that CBs are higher level, a 3/2 ratio of tackles/pd's is pretty good, 1/1 is very good, and any better is elite. There are a few CB's close to that in our league, including shutdown corner who just posted, and my CB Sammy who is a little better than 1:1.

I disagree about the tackle thing. Yes a lot of tackles can mean completed passes, but it can also mean helping out on run defense or tackling another CB's man before he can break a big gain.

I agree totally with that.

In fact we have sometimes switched our CBs just because some of them are better playing the run than others.

The more time your defense spends on the field, the more tackles the people on the defense get. We have to take this into account when judging how impressive any tackling stats are. People on dominant teams will usually have deflated tackling numbers and people on bad teams will usually have inflated tackling numbers.

As for DBs specifically, its both a sign of how good they are and how good the front 7 are when you look at their Tackles to Pass Deflections ratios. How many tackles came from missed pass coverage? How many came on run plays? Outside or inside? Its complicated as heck there, but the answers to those questions help to flesh things out a bit, not that I'm going to go around and count up such things, I'm way too lazy for that.

As for how this All-Zeta thing could work, with people feeling left out, is to have the owners and/or GMs nominate people from their team. From there, with the names, everyone who's interested can go and look at stats and replays. Heck, the nominators can even provide such things in their posts about their nominees. I don't want everyone nominating people, so I'd say go to forums or PMs as a team and find nominees or something. As for me, emotionally I'd probably vote for my whole team to be on there but objectively I can see that some players are having better seasons than others, Sammy > Jay Pizzle, both are good but one is truly elite. This has gone on too long, but I think this last paragraph was worth it. END TRANSMISSION!!!

another reason for a cb having high tackle totals is that you just can't run on the defense so the offense has to pass say 70-80% of the time, and they could be little dump off passes or short 2-3 yarders.

Yep those dump passes are a pain, but in real life it can be really fun. For example (true story) i played CB and had flats. So i press my receiver and push him out of my zone then a hb does a wheel towards me, he looks back for the ball thats coming for him and the second he catches it BOOM i blast him. Thats what makes football fun.

This has been a good discussion and all, but we're nearing the end of the season now. Would appreciate if everyone could get their votes in sometime soon. I'll announce the winners sometime before the zeta championship so there's only a few days left to get your votes in. Anyone can vote as long as you take it seriously.
