That was early season when no one had a lot of elo accumulated. Madison spent most of the season building a lot of elo, only to give a big chunk of it away to Richmond. Richmond is number 1 precisely because they beat the number 1 team late in the season. Gave them a much bigger boost than beating Madison earlier would have.

A lot of it will come down to scheduling at this point, but the league playoffs will make sure everyone has an opportunity.

This.

Given that defenders are already required to be able to do everything, lets make it so that one of the few things they can do to deal with the running game doesn't work.

Given how few abilities there are to counter the passing game (aside from 3rd down stopper, on an island, spin cycle, tunnel vision, chase down, pick six, eyes on the prize, and zone shark), we should definitely nerf one of the only SAs that deal with the running game.

If you're talking about Empire then sure, it is crap. Otherwise look at the top vet teams and see that a few of them are all run, even look at professional and see that MEM and Hub are all run and successful at it.

Look at the four teams going to playoffs in Orion.

Three of them do nothing but run the ball, one of them does nothing but pass the ball.

Richmond is #2 in the ladder with a running game.

Tell me again how running has "gone to crap".

And look how successful the all run teams are in sophomore.

6 in the top 20 is a good showing

You're talking about early stage in team's careers. The running game needs more time to develop than the passing game and it's been that way for a while. Doesn't mean running teams can't make their way up the ladder when they start breaking tackles. Going to depend on how the defenses are built and if their caps are good enough.

Great gameplan by Ground Assault against Madison. I think anyone could see the Cover 1 CB Fire coming from a mile away and GA countered it well with a ton of slams and weak pitches. They dominated time of possession and dominated the game. Well done.

Yeah... no one really cares how unbalanced teams look before Pro. The only reason all run teams were better in Rookie and Sophomore when I was coming up was because spamming QB runs and sweeps was all you needed to do, and breaking blocks on the outside was all but impossible.

Then it got to the point where you could get to the ballcarrier, but you couldn't tackle them.

At least as a defender you have the option of picking abilities that just automatically make you better at defending the pass. There's really no ability that says, "versus the run, this makes you faster and tackle better" the way they have for the passing game.

Instead you have to build a CB that sucks at defending the pass in order to break blocks and be fast enough to get to the ballcarrier before they are nine yards up the field. Then you still have to bring the ballcarrier down.

You play one team that has WR1 built like a sprinter and you have to be able to defend that.
You play the next team and WR1 is built like an olineman and can't catch the ball, which is great because they don't throw.
You play the next team and WR1 is built like a possession TE... slow, but sneaky, with a great vertical and amazing hands.

To me, this has always led to the fundamental flaw in the design of this game.

No man, this game is totally balanced in the way that an offense can sell out on a subset of skills and defense has to stop everything.

For how much this game is supposed to be GLB1 simplified and without exploits, it actually amazes me that teams are even allowed to call all pass or all run. Why the nanny state mentality on offensive depth charts, but the playbook is open season?

The ironic thing is not allowing people to put in certain players for certain plays on offense encourages them to commit to a certain style even more. Maybe if you could allow a team to put in a scat back on passing plays only, they might actually try more plays.

Lowest scoring output for Madison since a Season 5 loss to Portland Ronin. That was July 27th, 2014.

Nice job by USC to crush the TOP, and McGruff locking the TE out of the offense.
