just makes for an interesting comparison. My CB's have ~90 deflect and I deflect ~10% of passes

yours have ____ deflect and deflect ~9.25%

Sounds like heavy deflect skill doesn't effect deflecting all that much

That's like saying I have 90 tackle tech and miss more tackles than a guy with 60.

I know it isn't scientific proof by any means. But using your numbers: a team with most LB's with 90 tackle tech I would expect - would miss a fewer % of tackles than a team with LB's who have 60 tackle tech.

I'm saying the same thing about CBs with 90 deflect vs CBs with 60.

Of course there are plenty of other factors...but anecdotal "evidence" is all we have available to us right?

DD2 only played 8 top 20 opponents, 5 of those games against Rhode Island, AA, and Air Raid so pretty good pass data.

559 Pass attempts against us. So 274 passes completed, 285 Incomplete.
49% Completion Rate
35 Drops - 6.2%
7 INTs - 1.2%
24 KLs - 4.29%
69 Pass Deflects - 12.34%
96 Unable to Secure - 17.17%
54 Bad Throws - 9.66%

You probably should factor in screen passes as well since the chance to deflect those are much lower.

against me - only 5% screens (48 times) so not super tilting

Fixed %'s and 35 screens (6%) against me so nothing ground breaking either. 1 of those screens was intercepted so taking those out would lower my INT numbers as well.

Just based off the numbers I would guess that deflection skill does factor into the "unable to secure". You have a 20% Unable rate compared to my 17.17% rate, with me having a significantly lower deflection investment. Assuming Romo was serious when he said he had 80+ he has a decent amount more than me as well and he is up around 21%. However, I'm slightly higher in actual passes deflected which would make me guess that there is a lot more factors into actually deflecting the ball that I must have higher or just RNG.

I have 1 single CB above 80.

I assumed when you said "80+ deflection guys" that you meant more than 1...

looking at my specific CB's (no clue where they are on the depth charts)

#1: 213 targets - 29 PD - 13.6%

#2: 312 targets - 44 PD - 14.1%

#3: 298 targets - 43 PD - 14.4%

#4: 193 targets - 25 PD - 12.9%

#5: 139 targets - 21 PD - 15.1%

So - the PD # gets skewed quite a bit by LB's and Safeties deflecting fewer %s (I'm sure) and having significantly lower pass deflect skills.

(4 of those at 91 deflect and 1 of them at 77)
