Did you even play GLB1?

People did that all the time.

We already have a five year case study of the league structure you guys are recommending...and it wasn't overly exciting.

Sure it's "better" in that the best teams are more likely to be "rewarded" with making the playoffs, but it sure made the entire season a snoozefest for everyone involved besides 2-3 teams in the middle of the league.

The worst case scenario with this setup is if each division has one or two completely dominant teams, meaning those teams don't have to try, and meaning that nobody else in the division has a chance.

And that scenario is called "normal" with the old league structure.

at the expense of the league games though. 6 of 16 teams dilutes the regular season compared to 4 of 12.

The NFL has 6 of 16 teams.

Huh? Of course those teams have to try because if they don't win their division, they will need to win the wildcard spot, which would only go to 2 teams in their conference.

In my scenario, you would have 2 conferences, 4 divisions of 4 teams in each conference, for a 32 team league. You are talking about 8 division races, wildcard spots and rivals all over the place. Each tier would essentially be divided into 2 or 3 NFL type leagues.

Anyway you could just try it for one season in a rookie tier? If people don't like it, you can always go back to the old way the next season.

No, not really.

Only way imo to ensure complete parity across all leagues is to have an EPL style structure.

Lol. It's funny how some people have to just experience things themselves, even if they aren't ideal.

I wonder what businesses would be like if they did this with all ideas. Concession-mentality for 14 year olds.

NFL also has parity. The best and worst NFL teams are much closer performance wise than the best and worst teams in any GLB2 league.

and? The NFL makes money on playoff games. There's an incentive to water down their playoffs even further. They're selling out regular season games regardless.

In GLB2, it's all about the competitive interest of those involved. Increasing the % of playoff teams will reduce the interest in the regular season. As Corndogs stated, there's 5 years of history to prove this in GLB1.

It's just NGTH man. This idea needs to just be allowed to die. They may one day reorganize the league hierarchy, but the actual composition and functionality of an individual league isn't going to change.

That would be absolutely fascinating to see in action.

Bad journeyman teams in seasoned leagues. Only good rookie teams making it to sophomore (well, that kinda already is this case because bad rookie teams just go away).

Not sure how well it'd sit with the actual players tho. It'd be frustrating to have one of the teams that just barely got themselves demoted running amuck in your league with a full season's extra SP's under their belt.

This could actually work and be awesome, but only if each tier had its own independent league system.

It never would happen though, us Americans are in love with our divisions and conferences. I happen to be a huge soccer fan so it wouldn't be a stretch for me. Both systems have pros and cons for sure. I guess the ladder effectively replaces any type of tiered league system as well.

Oh, didnt realize that. I tried to give GLB1 a shot and gave up halfway through creating my free character. Makes my head hurt thinking about it.
