My name is Geoff. I'm not Brazilian
God, those books sucked. If I wanted to read Lord of the Rings I would read Lord of the Rings.

Sword was basically Lord of the Rings, agreed. Allanon>>>>>Gandalf, since he actually used magic.
Elfstones was the shit though. I'm glad Shannara is finally getting made into a TV series.

Daaaaamn...I haven't read those books in years! Wouldn't have recognized the reference until you dropped Shannara. TV series you say? hmmm..

Yeah, they are skipping Sword (because of aforementioned LotR similarities) and starting with the more unique Elfstones.
Jon Favreau is directing the pilot.

The first few series hold up quite well. Don't read anything after the Voyage of the Jerle Shannara trilogy though. Everything goes to shit >_>

Yeah, I'll admit that I only read all of the first one and bits here and there of the others. The problem is I didn't read them when I was younger, and by the time I did I was reading Game of Thrones at the same time. I'm not a big fantasy reader either.
I think that characters that have power and are more restrained in using it are far more interesting than characters who have powers and use them whenever they can.

Yeah, but I think Brooks did that better than Tolkien. Allanon is able to use magic, but it ages him and forces him to use the druid sleep more often and for longer periods. Gandalf was basically a god, but he was forbidden from using his powers (for the most part).
I read Sword for the first time when I was 7, after reading LotR. I was immediately drawn to it because there weren't songs every 5 pages, so for most of my childhood Terry Brooks was my favorite author.

I read Sword in high school as a reading assignment in English class and then I got hooked.
