Puerto Rico and Agricola? Me either.
I'm sure you've heard of MTG and D&D, though >_>

Want to try board game references maybe? Two of the highest rated board games of all time are Puerto Rico and Agricola. Know what they have in common? No dice. There is a random element to start the game, but after that, it's all you versus the other people, not chance.
Well... the good and the bad of no random exists in those games too. In Puerto Rico you can have players conspire to keep a player from winning (you have no cash? I choose the builder even if it fucks me and helps Ted's Wife).
...The order that the tiles come up in Agricola is random as is the offerings for buying plantations, but yeah... pretty much no random.
There are also games like seven wonders where the only random element is the hands that are dealt, the rest is all choices. Similar to Dominion where you can't fix your hand, but you can stack the odds.

You can pretty much take luck out of D&D through rules lawyering. And I'd argue the game is fun in the social and story aspects, not rolling lots of dice.
MtG is a closer example to what we have here because you can load your deck. Yet, even then, I'd argue that nobody particularly likes winning or losing duels that come down to just extreme cases of luck (ie. mana hosed). Still, this is closer to what I'd be happy with as I'm not asking to remove all dice rolls (because chess is boring), just give me better control of my strategy up front.
As for Puerto Rico and Agricola, if you like board games and have friends who like them as well, I very highly recommend them. They're both easy to learn, but can have deep levels of strategy involved.
And, unlike the extremely popular board games of Monopoly or Scrabble, you won't end friendships in the process of playing.

Uno is the best for ending friendships.
Seriously, getting hit with three +4s is enough to flip the table.

What is MtG and D&D?
My favorite board game is Catan.
If you like Catan, you'll really like Ticket to ride and Carcassonne.
and MTG is even more of a money sink than this game... at least you can flip the cards for profit though lol.

Monopoly is just a long boring death until you finally just get bored and quit.
The shift from laughing at the person sitting beside you right before they play their +4 is a sudden sinking feeling.

How about the feeling of almost winning and the act of reverses and skips being laid down to keep you out of the game?
