They do happen, and are recorded. We know this because we can see the number of KLs a player has in the Team Leaders and League Leaders pages. Whether they're included in the PD number or not... I don't know.

The fact that no players have a higher KL number than PD number seems to indicate that KLs are counted as a PD and KL.
