close enough?

LOL I would say yeah that is a qualifier, tie game 2 minutes remain might be the unspoken of flaw there. I can see the sim logic saying well if we punt and we stop them and time expires we tie not lose.

That is your Max FG setting though.

49 wasn't enough? I mean safe was set to 40 so it should have been plenty long

We can win with kicking a field goal from the 7 yard line instead of a touchdown....which one do you think is easier and probable one someone would choose.

These are all stupid counter points because no one in their right mind would choose to do so

You're saying an NFL, or any football team, would go for it on 4th when up by 3 at the end of the game?

Just like you were saying that any football team would choose to go for the touchdown from the 7 yard line in OT instead of kicking the field goal?

But you can try for a touchdown three times and THEN kick a field goal. It's even more logical when you take into account crappy kickers.

:/

Imagine the rage if the sim ran his FG kicker out there and missed the kick.

Do normal teams line up for a FG in sudden death over time with plenty of time on the clock on first down? It seems more logical to try for it multiple times before kicking a FG. Especially with "low level" kickers that are pretty inconsistent.

I usually agree with the things you say so I'm sorry but this is horrible. Considering how inconsistent the offensive players as a whole are in addition to the kicker, I would choose to take that kick any day. There needs to be some kind of tactic for game-determining situations...i.e. inside opponents 20 down by 3 <2 min, that way we can at least just try to get a couple yards and run the clock in regulation before kicking. This week I got pulled out of late-game-tying field goal range by 3 pass calls (and 3 sacks). Things definitely need to be worked out around the end zone, no doubt about it.

As for OP...IF it weren't overtime, it would be more circumstantial. How much time is left, what's the score, etc. Because it's overtime, I think you should be allowed to opt for a kick in OT on any down was a target range is reached. If I have faith in my kicker at the 15 yard line, I don't want to risk a fumble trying to get an extra measly 1-6 yards (and I certainly don't want to pass the ball, though I don't exactly have that much control of it...)

I couldn't tell ya how many times my own high school team kicked a field goal on an early down to end the game. For that matter, we sometimes punted on 3rd down to catch the defense off guard and not let them return.

Screw it we know we suck. Let's just punt it on 3rd down

We won PA state championship...and it's sometimes called a pooch punt or retreat punt

It's a circumstantial thing. Like 3rd and 19 on the opponents 35 or 40....too far for the kicker, yards to go too much to try and go for it. Settle for the next best thing and pin them in their 10 with no chance for return? Or if you're up big and there's no point for you too keep your offense on the field.

....that's high school football pal, and even tom bradys doing it. Randall Cunningham at one time set the record for longest punt in NFL history with this play. Believe it or not, knowing how to punt can win you games...if I'm up by 9+ near the end of the game and the other team has me pinned within my own 5, for example, I'll take the safety and get better punting position.

So you would risk giving up 10 possible points when your up by 9? No.

This isn't GLB1. It's a completely different beast. Made for players, not coordinators.
