I think it's mostly effort. Jiddy said it best on page 1.
But more than just effort. Many of the older teams learnt to play WL dotball and coordinate in a very different sim.
I know for sure my base DAI is just not as good after a few seasons of changes. I've adapted a little bit, but just not enough to hang with current active OCs. So that's on my and my old ways.
So basically it's natural that the veterans are less enthusiastic and simply behind the times in many cases.

Yeah, care levels from the old dogs are at all-time lows. When you first hit WL, there's definitely some excitement that keeps you motivating when it comes to actively coordinating.
After you've been around the block, you tend to be ok with just let that auto-adjusting AI do it's thang for the most part.
I can tell you that Lincoln's builds were far better than most WL teams, but with cares and time commitments absent we definitely underperformed.

But doesnt a team like Lincoln still have the drive for Gold? I mean a silver is an amazing accomplishment, but you would think that would be all the motivation you need?

No doubt we want to win the gold every season. That doesn't mean our coordinators are going to be actively busting their butts week in and week out.

Its definitely both. When alloy opened his builds a lot of the newbs that were still not getting it finally got it. All those people started new players with a better mindset. Not to mention there has been much more communication from all the vets to the newbs whereas it used to be a private forum of just a couple guys keeping info close so nobody else knew. Everything is pretty much public knowledge now. Even if there happens to be a season where someone learns a new trick, it is leaked relatively quickly.

When its me and rusty driving the force...we already have one.
