I obviously get your point. The thing is, this is based on math, not head-to-head. Besides, Cal would never beat USC

Screw them, I like the RPI rankings. Please continue them and disregard these people.

I enjoy these rankings as well, despite them putting the Bandits so low.

Keep it up.

I think the ratings are an excellent addition. You should keep them regardless of what the naysayers think or say. The vocal minority always causes problems for the rest.

OK, well I'll continue to post them up here then. What do the "non-naysayers" have to say about including other factors such as scoring margin in the index, and how much of an influence should that have on the ratings (percentage wise)?

I like everything the way it is.

All that matters is getting to the playoffs and winning the championship. Everything else will work themselves out.

Thanks for your hard work asucrutch23.

I guess the target on our backs just got larger.

Really, it's perfect as it is. Some people work hard at finding things to complain about it, just ignore them.

I think if you want to add something like scoring margin (and it's not too painstaking a process), add it in the post in addition to the regular RPI.

Scoring margin percentage-wise though is a bit tricky in determining how good a team is in a first year league. People are still working out the kinks in how to properly adjust gameplans and other factors. If you would include it, it might be smart to throw out any game that is 35 points or more to zero. This would throw out some teams from the mix, but it seems like those teams have really no chance anyway. This way we at least have some 'real' idea on how teams preform against other competetitive teams. From this information we could have a better understanding of how we play against teams that are give or take the same as us.

Sound good?

Scoring margin is deceiving. What about run heavy teams who just try and control the clock and not put massive amounts of points up, they may be the harder teams to beat.

I don't disagree, I just think it would be interesting to see how this type of information stacks up over time, and how it could help in gauging who is going to win.

For my power rankings I use a equation that uses points, yards, turnovers, strength of schedule and win%. For yards and Points I use the average of all the games. It comes out a little cleaner by not allowing one game do too much damage to the overall rankings. For teams that run alot it wouldn't hurt them as long as they get more yards then they give up, since run teams prevent their opponents from getting yards since they have the ball, and passing teams give their opponents more chances since they ussually get more 3 and outs or TDs they seems to even things out and give a good ranking system. IMO

I think the current plan is great. Since it is just for discussion (as you pointed out), then you shouldn't spend too much time on it. Especially since you are on the management of my team. I vote you spend your time there.

However, for the record I kind of want to see your excel sheet. I'm sort of nerdy about Excel. I spend about 30 minutes today trying to figure out how I would set it up so you could update it really easy. In my defense, I'm on day 2 of my job and I don't have a computer yet and my boss is out of town. There is only so long you can read the annual report before going cross-eyed.
