That would have been ludicrous. We had a extremely fortunate playoff run--why turn down the reward for that? Besides, SLAP would've still been a challenge for us this year, given Death Valley, the two Mayans, etc.

Don't worry, they stopped letting teams decline promotion anyways (unless you're demoting).

So, Week 1 is here and the pressure is already on.
District 9 elected to use a Mini Helmet promotion against us, a wise move, imo, as it'll give them a much needed edge on the rest of you, and they need to represent the entire Zeta conference with a good showing. At least those are the least embarrassing reasons...

I had lumped than in with the embarassing reasons. Gonna waste your one Helmet & a bunch of team funds to have a slightly better chance to advance past the first week?

Stats updated to show District 9's performance. The bars are set, most of them not too high, although TE Jim "Crash" Roadgrader put up some pretty big receiving numbers. Norris Kennedy also got on the board for defensive TD's with a pick 6 in the first two minutes of the game.

I don't quite get it...you guys have a solid team and will by NO MEANS go anything close to 0-16. Hell, you could even be fighting for a playoff spot I believe!!! Good luck this season, I see no reason all our stats wont fall out of the top 3 by the 4th game!!!

Perhaps, I'm optimistic, but hard to say anyone besides us was the worst team to promote last season. For the same reasons, it's also hard to say any promoting team improved more than we did since then, but we're still behind the curve. From what I've seen so far, Alpha isn't at all the weak conference it was made out to be preseason either. You guys had a notable chemistry penalty, which is why I thought we had a real good chance to win today, but that will disappear for all teams shortly, leaving our youth the only handicap involved.
Either way, this is mainly a publicity stunt... and just in case things start out bad for our team, there's something to keep me motivated.
