As far as Talisker goes I prefer the 10 to the 18, and I agree with you that usually I like some thing a bit more smokey than the Glenlivet, but the 15 year French Oak is pretty solid and a little better than the rest.
I can tell you this the Highland Park 18 is amazing for the price. I like it better than the 25 myself.
Might have to try the Talisker again. Just last few times I have had it not been one I liked as well. Also like the Glenfiddich Cask Strength. That has that nice smokey note with the heavier peat flavoring.+1 to Glenfiddich Cask Strength & Highland Park 18.
