i appreciate (and anticipate) that stance... but it seems that everyone in the league should get a vote, even the ones that are too scared/disgusted to post currently.
or perhaps the CPL needs a GG subforum?

Surely, but, here's the thing, those people are insane. Clinical.
CPL != FFA. It's nothing to be afraid of. People think they'll be mercilessly hounded for dottalk by the meme-drunk hive mind, but that isn't what happens. Like at all. Ever. I consider myself to be fairly subjective and able to see this whole thing clearly (having been on both sides), and, honestly, the attitude most describe more closely fits a forum like USA Pro. They're infinitely worse and more insidious than CPL has ever been, but because it's 90% dot related, it's all gravy.

you may consider them insane, but they have similar views about you guys... so how do we decide who's right?

possession may be nine points of the law, but that doesn't mean that they don't actually have equal say here.

That's a large part of the reason I invited you.

it's not the dot-related stuff that's an issue. it's that there are two different cultures of conduct here... and they have intractable positions.
so either you banish one (which is what we've currently got), or you make a forum for each. heck, it doesn't have to be a situation where one is a subforum of the other... make them both co-subforums of an empty league forum or something.
there are ways to accomplish the segregation without it being a political statement.

People aren't goin gto start going to two different forums for the same community. That's retarded.

you honestly think there's one community?
it's one league, obviously... but definitely not one community.

It's very much once community.

ideally it would be.

but there are obviously people who feel excluded by your community... and so they make big pleas for everyone to abide by universal forum rules and just get along... and then they get further excluded... and so they call for non-CPL mods to enforce universal forum rules, which results in lockfests and bannings... and then PFs like this get set up.

i mean, how many anti/non-CPL PFs are there right now?

Deathblade makes a great point.

Newer users of CPL may not like it (I am a newer user also btw), but the people who have been there for a year should really not have to change because some prissy fellow comes along demanding they act like choir boys.

Three at last count (?), and all of them are defunct.

Pretty sure that we actually need to know what the "opposition" wants.

Do they want it solely GG dotball talk, and any negativity gets banned? Bans for poor sportsmanship? I've actually seen people complain about bad dotsmanship. How do you force the community to suddenly start caring, and only be positive about the dots?

As for segregating the forums, that just ends up with one being dead and/or being trolled, and the other one, the "real CPL", dying off.

The fact taht they don't like the general feel in the community doesn't mean they're part of a different community. You don't have to like your neighbor for him to be in your community.

Right, well, trust is necessary for any relationship, Cat, and I would like to be your woman.

Of course they're entitled to their equal say, but their perceptions are (generally) based on two things: one, they believe the internet is a real place and, two, they're unilaterally afraid of people who don't believe that. That, of course, makes them insane.

You're a rare exception. You also go to show that the complaints of "THEY DONT LIKE ANYONE THAT ISN"T THEM AND THERE MEEN" are false. Not only are you an unrelated outsider, but you're a mod (which CPL is notorious for hating) and you've been embraced.

It's about not sucking.

That and not being an uptight douche

Rules are skirted, people are insulted, but its the internet and if you're going to post you should have some sort of understanding of what's something that needs mod intervention and what doesn't. Roll with the punches imo

Will be in the next wave of additions. I want to let things get a little bit more fleshed out with a smaller number of mostly-core people first, so it doesn't just turn into a 500 post a minute, unreadable, smattering of stuff.

CPL does abide by the forum rules.
They are somewhat direct, and precise in their personal attacks, which I would say is more lenient, however, most of the other forums are just as bad, but instead of saying "eat a bowl of dicks" they will go on a long 3 paragraph rant, filled with subtle insults.
Porn gets deleted.
Spam gets banned.

i'd say yes and no.

for starters, the opposition (as i guess i'm calling them now) certainly disagree... as do the non-CPL mods that they bring in.

i think the main effect here is that the CPL is active enough and has enough of an established culture, that certain individuals feel completely beset upon... and the mob effect makes them think that the flaming is more asymmetrical than it actually is... especially when CPL mods (not naming any names) actually pitch in as well.

and you've made the excellent point before that it doesn't work for a person to whine about insults when they're dishing out insults themselves. but my counter to that is my old saw that moderators aren't janitors... they're there to moderate what would otherwise be extreme. so a thread filled with insults, where even one person (almost no matter how wrong they are) is something that should be shut down for the sake of GLB.

since the two groups trying to enjoy the league forum have intractable positions on this matter, i still think a segregation is the only permanent solution. not ideal and definitely a little lame... but permanent.
