If you are only going to do it that many times you might as well have owners rank both sides and then do an overall top 10 from each owner.

So we vote for who we think are the Top 5 teams in each Conf not including the team we are affiliated with?
This shouldn't be tough...I will simply follow the standings after today's games as they will likely represent the poll pretty closely.

Owners should not vote for their own teams. That's typically how these types of polls are conducted to avoid bias.
The only way not voting for your own team works is if every team votes. Otherwise, the results will be tilted toward the team/teams that don't participate.
What?
Edit: If every one but you votes for your team then they will be at the top. I don't see how an owner not participating will make his team get more first place votes.
If you vote and can't vote for yourself, you are voting for 5 other teams.
If you don't vote, you are not voting for 5 other teams.
Those other teams are competing against your team for top spots.
Get it?
An easy fix is to have the owners from Lion vote on the Elephant Top Five and owners from Elephant vote on the Lion Top Five.

I like this idea better, except that I don't know much about the other side right now as I haven't been here long enough to know.

You are one of those people who just don't get things no matter how they are explained to you, aren't you?
If you can't vote for your own team and not every team is participating, the results are meaningless.
If every team participates, it's a non-issue.

I take it your grades in English are sub-par. Let's take a walk through grammar shall we? The question was: "Aren't polls pretty much meaningless anyway?" My answer: "Not unless Freetown's at the top." The word, "Not" agrees with the previous question and with the "unless," I state that the opposite is true if Freetown is at the top. Therefore, my answer shows that the polls are meaningless unless Freetown is at the top.
Yes, I am on the best team in the league.

My friend i believe what you were trying to get across was this Not if Freetown is at the top. Adding unless actually changes your statement to say the Polls are only meaningless if Freetown is at the top.
I got what you meant and wasn't going to call you on it.
Not; means you are disagreeing with the previous statement; look it up in the dictionary and adding unless after it only changes it to what i said previously. The way I stated it at the top is the only way you could have used "not" to get across the point you were going for.
Also if you care to say that my English Grades are sub par, I will gladly make my avatar my English grades through college.

Results are going to be the same no matter what. You can take all 16 teams or you can take 8 and I can promise you the top 5 teams would almost assuredly be the same no matter how many teams vote with our without voting your own team.
Voting your own team can screw it up even more because someone who normally wouldnt be the #1 could vote themself at #1 and throw it off. I have done this before and its really simple you are just making it out to be some kind of complex system.
Lets say I turn my Lion conference in like so...
1 Warriors of Anubis
2 Freetown Palookas
3 The Sierra Leone Syndicate
4 Band of Brothers
5 Red Sea Wave
And assign the first place vote 5 points and go down the list 2-4 3-3 4-2 5-1 etc..
It wont matter how many teams vote the results would still be the same.
Does that clear it up for you?
I had a team try to vote themself #1 every single vote and it would throw off where they should actually be in the Opinion Poll so this is why voting you own team is bad and it makes sneaking in at #5 fun for some teams who normally would not get a vote.
