I agree, I'm sure a lot of owners here are paying personal money to be able to set their team to their preference. And I agree hostyle's point was being missed. No matter your personal discrepency with the reasoning behind running the football all the time even if the situation doesn't call for it, that's a mute point. If you set it to no auto adjusting and you wanna run it 4 times outta 10, then it should be run 4 times outta 10.

And just as coaches in the NFL dont last long for making "bad" calls like that, we too here on this game have individual players on a team that want to be successful, and the coach making the bad calls are likely to see their players jump ship when their contract is up.

even on no auto adjust the sim can take over.

disable it and your game plan will be run correctly.

If you turn off auto-adjust and have 80% runs, does that mean you want it to run on 3rd and 12?

It will pick a play distribution that will yiels 80% runs (running on almost all 1st downs, almost always running on 2nd and 9 or less, and probably running on 3rd and 5 or less).

Same thing if you're behind by 24 in the 2nd half. Of course it will pass, and will pass deeper in that case. If you were ahead by 24 in the 2nd half, with the 80-20 split, it might never throw a pass besides 3rd and long in that half.

What auto-adjust is, is simply deviating because a play type isn't working, that's all. It will always deviate based on situations.

I think you have no clue what "Working as intended" means. Which is amusing, considering there's no hidden meaning. This feature is working exactly as the developers want it to work. It is working as intended. It is not working how certain players feel it should work. It might not be working as advertised, working usefully, etc... but it IS working as INTENDED.

Well it is one of two things- Either it is not working as intended or they have misguided us with the wording on how it functions.

Bottom line is if you turn it off, that word again is OFF, then it should be off, as in not work, does not factor into the game ect ect (if you fail to understand what I am saying look up "off" in the dictionary).

If they do not want the off feature to work in the manner of totally being off they should fix the wording and have it say "click here for an illusion of control over your team becasue in all honesty we think you are to stupid to set this thing up yourself".

So until they come out and either fix it to be totally off or reword it to show us that we are not really in control our teams as we see fit I will assume, and correctly so, it is not working as intended.

there have been other threads about this same problem. i still say the sim just mostly randomly calls plays. it seems that if you are down even 3pts the cpu says oh shit and starts passing no matter what you have your setting on. i have also seen it be 3rd and 4th and 10 and they run the ball even if your setting is 60/40 pass/run. from what i have seen the only way it really works is if you start putting it 70% or over for either pass/run and even then it does the opposite.

It's not the "OFF" that you are not understanding. You're misunderstanding the Auto-Adjust and what it entails.

Auto-Adjust changes play percentages based on the success of plays. If you have Auto-Adjust on, and your runs constantly get stuffed or go for one or two yards, the game automatically makes you pass more. If you turn Auto-Adjust off, the game will continue to run even if you're getting stuffed.

However, the game engine overrides the Auto-Adjust and Game Plan based on the game situation. If you're up 30-0 in the 4th quarter, but your runs have been stuffed all game long, it'll still make you run, even if you have Auto-Adjust on. Conversely, even if you set yourself up to pass all game long, but consistently got sacked/intercepted and you'd been Auto-Adjusted to run more, the game would ignore the Auto-Adjust if you were down by 10 in the 4th with 2 minutes to play.

OK fine, it's not working as STATED, but it's still working as intended.

When you're behind, you try to come back. When you're ahead, you try to run out the clock and get out with a victory. It's just how the game's supposed to be played, and anyone straying from it would be (at the very least) booed out of the stadium. Auto-adjust is minor tweaking to make your team work better. This is auto-auto-adjust, something that just needs to be done to save honor on both sides.

If you insist, go suggest a "Run out the clock if leading by __"/"Only try for a comeback when trailing by less than __" tactic.

So if it followed the game plan exactly how many of you would be happy to see a run go for 4 yards on 3rd and 9?

Yeah, the tactics work off basic guidelines. But they're also dependent on situations.

Exactly like Shorteous was saying, if you're down by a touchdown and have a minute less and have to score then the CPU probably won't make you run. And if you're losing by bunches then you WILL be more likely to pass, because of the situation, then you would normally.

Basically, they're complicated and not perfect but every topic I've seen that says they're not working has seemed to be mistaken, in my estimation.

Why wouldnt it make you run if you have a RB thats 5 levels higher than any of your QBs or WRs? If youre a run heavy team, with a beast of a back, youre not going to pass, no matter what the situation. Youre going to go with what your team does better, not with what statistics show as a better choice.

Go watch the NFL. See if the ravens, or the chiefs, or the chargers run the ball inside of two minutes to go in a game. I dare you to find a game where any team ran the ball inside of the last two minutes to drive for a win... and i'm talking about a 50% ratio.. hell find a 25% ratio (that might be easy because of the low amount of plays in those situations). Find a team that will continue to run the ball down by a bunch a points.. If you do, see how the fans reacted, and how long the coach lasted... It's common football sense..

I'm pretty sure that this site would be dead if it followed those guidelines.. Right now our tactics are basic if not rudimentary. We are not alloted the tactics to be able to make those judgment calls. The game would basically suck if it did that!

geeze, if you call this guy 'hard-headed' you'd be grossly understating 'the point' which he is obviously incapable of understanding...
i mean, wow dude, im pretty sure your a moron and his point is completely valid, your just being a dick
i wish all the people like him in the world would just croak

The chiefs did it once a couple seasons ago with LJ in the backfield when they still had trent green. Final drive, 10 run plays and 1 pass, with 1 run play giving Bennett the ball as well. LJ got the game winning touchdown. I think it was against the raiders as well, I'll have to find the article. This is the only game I've watched that a team actually ran more than pass in the last 2 minutes of the game-- every other team making their last drives pass.

okay how about this.

my last game finished in a 0-0 tie. this was with the passing nerf that has since been rolled back. without looking it up again we passed 80 or so times and ran about 23. roughly 80/20 split. my game plan was set to 60/40 pass/run. we completed less than 30% of our passes and averaged 2.4 yards per pass attempt. our running game averaged 3.3 yards per carry.

auto-adjust was on and intensity set to 15%.

someone explain how increased passing made sense for my team.

i'm completely in favor of auto-adjust and prefer to use it, but it's hard to understand why it's making the adjustments it is. i understand up by 21, down by 21. what about tie score, field position battle, passing is horribly broken, running is working slightly better.

edit: oops, we completed 32% of passes

Is it really that hard to understand? Setting the run/pass ratio is only a part of what plays are called. The other part is the situation your team is in. Are you going to run on third and long? No. Are you going to run with time running out in the half? No. Are you going to run down by a lot of points? No.

I wholeheartily agree with the "off" should be off. If I had an Emmitt Smith or Ladanian Tomlison or a Barry Sanders type back,I would have no problems running on 3rd and long.I think even a busted-ass knee Bo Jackson ran for 99 yds once. He may (in this case not) have a low level HB or FB that needs some PT to level and can't do it if passing the ball. The whole game revolves around experience: can't get it on the bench. And as for complaining about 3rd and long and not geting it...that person has no room for complaining if auto adjust is off. That was his call. OH and I forgot Sweetness Walter Payton. (sorry Bears fans)

It makes a lot of sense, but the options shouldn't say you can turn auto-adjust off, because it's clearly not off. Just for the sake of honesty and perceived legitimacy, the lowest auto-adjust setting should be 10% since that's what they treat it as anyway.
