There actually is alot of scouting. I don't just look for the highest contract, let's face it, money doesn't do all that much. It's about finding a team you enjoy playing for. And inevetiablly you piss someone off because you don't respond quick enough.

I don't get pissed when ppl don't reply quick enough, i get pissed when they don't reply at all.

Amen, Chase & Jack. I too send personally crafted messages to the players that I want to recruit. Half of them never even get read. The other half don't work for some reason. I have no idea why. *shrug*

When I put my level 20 LB on the Marketplace, I asked that a PM be sent with offers and that the team name be in the topic line of the PM. Any that didn't follow these two simple requests (which was most of the offers) were deleted immediately. Everyone else got a "Thanks, but signed elsewhere" reply, once I had decided. And I ended up getting screwed after all my careful research anyway!

It's an imperfect world here on both sides of this fence. *sigh*

Pretty much, As an owner you try to look at what you think is best for you and the player your recruiting on the team. Like you said Lamoix, I too personally craft each pm i send, unique to each person i'm attempting to recruit, some of them have worked, some of them do not. But I kinda tend to take it as an insult when a carefully constructed, polite, and to the point letter essentially, was crated and sent, and not even read or replied to.

Looking for a upper 20s OT I received:

- 9 No responses
- 5 rejected contracts without PMs being read
- 1 "u writ[sic] 2 much"
- 1 You-already-have-a-level-26-starter (when my message specifically said in the second sentence our existing RT is retiring)
- 1 I-want-a-lower-level-league-for-pancake-domination
- 2 refused to open their builds or PM attributes

... guess I'll just use a C at RT, since there's a million of them on the market.

This thread hits home for me...Native of Oceania for several seasons.

I came from a gutted team, and now own one. I have been recruiting for 5 days now and have been able to find some folks willing to try and build a better team, but the majority don't even want to listen..they see New team, or previosuly gutted looking for level 25+, and they don't even read the post....

Some guys actually want to come in and help a gutted team. Those people are very hard to find, especially when someone else sends them a contract two seconds later with higher bonus money and a better record.

Everyone wants to win!!! why not help a team get there instead of always wanting a consistently winning team??? makes no sense to me..I joined the bandits. they were not a winning team, they were a gutted team looking for guys to help get back on the right track..

I would not take my guys from the Bandits either...I can't do that to the owner, or my team members...just isn't right...at a loss here..any help would be appreciated..

Thanks Chase for already providing your support!!

The really bizarre thing that I've encountered in trying to recruit for one of the teams I GM for is that I get similar responses (or lack thereof) when trying to recruit for a team that was undefeated in Season 4 and won the league (mid-season expansion league) the season before. You can't get much more "winning" than that. Even my own team finished #4 last season, and I don't seem to have any better luck than anyone else.

Oh wait, neither team is in a USA league...

LOL, that might have something to do with it.
I've had a couple of agents request USA only.
And that could be something that helps out our friend above!

I will never get the stats guys. I have run into those guys. Football is not a stats driven game, they are particularly meaningless for some positions.

I've been trying to recruit for 5 days, i barely have enough players to field a team.

heh, if we win 2 games this year, we're doing great. No that's not an insult to my team or players, my point is, while we have some fantastic building blocks and you've got to start some where, we all signed on knowing this is a building year and that our 'level of competition' is not going to be very competitive and that more than likely we're only in this league for this season. But I am not too concerned with that, as long as we progress, perhaps after another quality season we can come right back up, who knows. But the hardest part is finding those players that are willing to give you a chance.

Though, I do have previous experience in 'building up' teams, as the previous GM & Defensive Coordinator of the New Jersey Nighthawks. In which I helped my current GM build up into a playoff team. My current GM is the former owner of that team, couldn't afford to keep it, so most of the people left, but he's a high class guy and huge asset so he's the first guy I looked to when building this team.

I saw you were going after the same corner as I was in one case. Doesn't look like either of us got him.

I have to say, looking for a corner all off season I am just blown away by how many really bad corner builds there are out there. I have a CB, it isn't like it's a really complex build, how is it people are fucking it up so badly?

People get either way too SA happy or too focused on "shutdown", where they try to build their CB as a mirror to a WR - generally leaving vision in the tank.

Yes. Too many SAs is a killer. My favorite though is when they have like a 50 in tackling. I mean, it's nice to be able to tackle and all but it's better for a corner to not have to tackle someone.

I actually thought about making a corner, I went with a LB instead but I really thought about making a CB. I agree there has been some ATROCIOUS builds, and not just for CB's either, for WR's, LB's, all kinds of people, just flat out horrible.

and getting into their stupid skill trees at lvl 7, that's just dumb. Honestly. With all do respect, get your raw stats up first. that's what's truly important, wait till you're closer to lvl 12-16 to start even thnking about pointing points into your trees imo.
