Decided to let a few guys play and relive some glory days in the senior league. Seems like I was pretty fortunate to get offers from Jacksonville for all of them. Brought two combo TEs, a C, a DE and a K to the squad. Solid support positions. Could use some studs at key skill positions still though.
And we're off! Week 1 is in the books already, and some interesting results from the get go.
In Alpha, Phoenix absolutely smashed the defending champs Leeds 41-13. The Retirees looked great in both phases of the offense, and held the Accountants to under 70 yards on the ground. Leeds brought lots of pressure, but in the end it didn't matter as Retiree QBs wen 34/50 with 4 TDs and 0 ints. The Dinosaurs squeaked out a win over Hartford, with the Dinosaur's commitment to the run providing the difference. The Dinosaurs had all 3 backs average over 7 yards per carry, and the HBs broke 14 tackles between the two of them. Antwon Sprague was everywhere in a losing effort, registering 4 tackles and 16 assisted tackles throughout the game.
In Beta, Saskatoon seems to be adapting to life without CMON MAN just fine, as Dmitri Carey ran for 244.5 yards and 3 TDs in a win over the Rollers. The Rollers struggled mightily to move the ball, with only 0.8 ypc through the game. SS Cal Meacham lived in the Roller backfield, bringing down a player for a loss 3 times. Meanwhile, in Houston, a pedestrian effort from both teams saw the Grandpas steal a last minute win over the Slugs. Are the offenses bad? Were the defenses good? It's too early to tell, but I left unimpressed with either team. They need to step it up against their league competition.
In Gamma, a shock upset early as the New York Lindy Hoppers lose their first game of the season. The Elderly shut out last year's finalists for the first time since Season 17. The Hoppers struggled all game to move the ball, mustering only 266 yards. Is this going to be what the season is like? Hopefully they can turn it around fast next week. Meanwhile, Naps QB Irving Berlin probably wants this one back. Giving up 3 sacks and only completing 28% of your passes is a good way to get shut out, as the Naps did. The Wrinkles look solid as usual, but will face tougher opposition. Meanwhile the Naps start yet another season wondering where things went wrong.
Offensive player of the week: HB Dmitri Carey, Saskatoon Defensive player of the week: DE Mega Watt, Washington

You discount the Walkers' lack of a punter or kicker.
