My ultimate goal has been to have a moderator on ignore, so when talk started about Satch becoming a mod I immediately blocked all PMs from him. And it worked! I was successfully ignoring a moderator! For a few hours! Before I decided I wanted to PM him about something! Damn!

Congrats Satch.....know you will bring some humor, intelligence, and common sense to the forums as a Mod.

But still a little ticked that I had to spell Kiki DeAyala as De Ayala because someone had already picked the name.....but I take solice in knowing my Herkie is a higher level and I beat you to Hub Bechtol and Cotton Speyrer.

P.S. I see you may have some free time as a GM.....we need someone that create a program to scout our opponents last 12 games and automatically adjust the offensive and defensive AI for the highest probability of success. I'm sure you could that, couldn't you?

hmm... so I am guessing this thread was all for attention?

just a questions

Try reading the thread instead of making bad assumptions.

WRONG. If it was a question you would have said: What happened in this thread? Was it all for attention?

You made an assumption which is proven by you saying so I am guessing...that implies that you are assuming and not asking an impartial question.

So...I just read all 27 pages of this, and I'm incredibly unhappy with the way things went.

I'm not an SA Pro guy, but after reading this thread, I can see that Satchmo is an incredibly respected poster. Tim Harper was widely hated. Why did it take 3 days, a huge explosion of emotion, and a crew of people threatening to take $1000s of dollars away from the game to get Harper replaced?

I'm glad we have a happy ending, but why is the customer service in this game such a problem? "Its harder to organize a community than program a game."--That's an absolutely ridiculous excuse. Is it hard to organize a Forum community? Yes. But if you're really having that much trouble with it, do what you've claimed you will soon do, and hire another Administrator.

While it may be hard to run an online community, its not Rocket Science. While there are some people who need to be moderated, the large majority of people seem to have the best interests of the board in mind. What exactly was the dilemma with Tim Harper, with the entire online community pretty much screaming, "Hey! Tim Harper is abusing his power!" while pushing forward a guy (Satchmo) they do respect and would like to be moderated by? What exactly were you deciding?

"People don't understand how hard....[insert task here]" seems to be what Bort's response to a lot of things are. He probably couldn't be more correct. There's likely a ton going on behind the scenes that we don't comprehend the difficulty of. But I'll tell you what I do know, there are some businesses that put their customers first, feel their pulse, and find ways to get things done to support them. This hasn't shown itself to be one. If there's an obstacle--even a reasonable one, like a guy having to work on the coding and Administrate the forums--there are some businesses that will point it out, and there are some that will waste no time getting past it.

This is a great game. On the gaming level, Bort has really done a fantastic job in writing a game that is fun to play and has an interface that is enjoyable to interact with. On a personal level? On a customer support level? To borrow a popular forum phrase "FAIL." Its a little harsh, but I continue to be stunned by the lack of support for customers on this site.

I'd really love to spend money on this game. However, I just can't justify that decision with myself. I can't look at situations like this--and actually, situations that seem to pop up in general--and tell myself that this is a business worth buying from. I love the game, and I'm happy to play it as a GM and Coordinator. As a paying customer? I think the game really really needs to improve.

I think the biggest issue is that the GLB forum is going through growing pains. I used to mod and now I am the equivalent of an admin in a much larger game than GLB. In that game, we have very detailed processes in place for moderating conferences and for quickly and professionally handling appeals or complaints about staff abuse.

GLB is a much newer game and at some point Bort and the rest of the staff here will need to develop policies and procedures to allow them to handle situations like what happened in a better manner.

Actually, I'm glad that a little bit of time was taken (and yes, OMFGLOL!!!!11!!!BBQ it took like a whole weekend, heaven forbid) before decisions were made. I'd MUCH prefer right and a little slow rather than fast and maybe not so right. Remember, there was a LOT of garbage (from all sides) to sift through over a few days, and a proper review would have gone through every last bit of it to determine exactly who did what to whom and when. It probably didn't help matters any that many of the people advocating for what was, IMO, the "right" position were going about it in a completely childish and inappropriate manner, and (probably accidentally) actually got what they had coming to them. As a father of a five and three year old, I can authoritatively state that when both your children come screaming to you that the other one did something horrible, they're probably both guilty of something.

Remember, right now, ultimately there's one, maybe two people with the authority to really step in and DO something. And it was on a weekend. And they have a lot of other game duties to attend to. Plus they may even have (and I know this may be a totally alien concept) a life outside of game development, or family duties to attend to, or just need a day off once in a while. Had I been in charge of the universe (and I know that's a frightening thought), the only crisis-management step that I would have tried to take is to come in sooner (if available) and say "We're aware of the situation, I'm going to take a little time to figure everything out, please stop screaming and flaming each other", and then vanish into the Bort-cave for a few hours at least.
