Also, please don't take my comment on Brees out of context... Watch where he usually targets on short routes... He DOES tend to throw high when targeting his receivers... Obviously unless he does a Favre jump pass he can't target the waist to knees like a Manning on his short passes... It works for Brees because he throws such a tight spiral. Otherwise, targeting high on a short route would likely lead to more dropped passes and interceptions. Fortunately the make-up of the current team gives him plenty of tall options.

If you need further proof that I'm not talking out of my ass here, just watch the highlights of Brees last game...

when watching Brees, I can't get over how many times his receivers leave their feet to make a catch...

Now, compare this to watching Manning vs. the Jets... (just for fun, pause the clip at the 3:36 mark... Notice how nearly every offensive lineman has at most a 4-6" drop...)
