Gart has it right, as he usually does.
To elaborate a bit:
The very best teams generally have excellent builds across the board, and a few that are exceptional even amongst the elite.
Tactics are very important, but assumedly many if not most of the teams at this level are good enough to put together a high quality gameplan...the top 8 teams in each conference definitely have game planning that ranges from competent to exceptional.
At the end of the day however, games vs the likes of Drygerian will come down to whther your dot is good enough to stop their dot...Jedi, Dooley and Jericho each present real challenges to the defense, and while a good defensive scheme with solid players will stop most opponents 95% of the time, it takes a good scheme with excellent players to stop that trio.
That's the real difference...the edge between really good and great which is played out exclusively in World League.
Can you tackle Jedi? Can you cover Jericho or pressue the QB quickly enough to take him out of the equation? Can you keep Dooely from getting an edge? Or will their TE (is it still Megan Raine?) dump your LDE then move on to dump your LOLB?
You might have the right defense called, but if your dots are simply over-whelmed, you won't get the job done.
It's a brutal league...every team here is used to winning...a lot.
But there are a few teams that are just better, in the same way that you were just better amongst the Pro league you recently left.
I think the toughest thing is to know you are maybe the 4th best team, but to know the gap between you and number 1 is just too wide to overcome.
There are a shit-ton of teams and players on this site. These are the very best of the best. There's no shame in losing up here. (unless you lose to BFM )

Honestly... not to sound pretentious. But seasons and seasons of playing the best teams will prepare you. We've always tried to challenge ourselves at Lincoln. Tournies, friendlies, USA pro. Between those, we really got to see how we stacked up against the best. Knowing we made it to the WL in the playoffs last season, we knew we had to arm up if we wanted to compete, so we got right down to it addressing any weaknesses we might have, and getting some of the best dots and agents in the game in their place. We were looking for the absolute best builds and any "x-factor" players we knew from experience. Now take a look at Halifax who pretty much did the same thing, getting the best players from CPL in the past 10+ seasons. MEM pretty much brings in the best free agents every off-season (except this most recent one ). You just gotta stay ahead of the curve as much as possible.

Pmuch..it comes down to getting the best dots and having good gameplanning..and playing the best teams def. helps you become a better gameplanner.

You may as well have said "I don't mean to say all (pick a race) are (pick a stereotype)..." The moment you say that, you know the rest of the post is exactly what you say you wanna avoid.

Whatever, I really don't care how people interpret it. Those that know me know I'm not one to brag.

What my frustration comes from is wondering why the hell there are only a small handful of teams at this level with any chance whatsoever? What makes you guys so much better than us. That's what I can't figure out. I've seen some of the elite builds out there, and they aren't any more elite than the builds we have in Singapore.
Anyone? What factor allows the top 3 or 4 playoff teams in each league hold absolute power over the entirety of GLB?
i can tell ya this right now...stop looking at builds and start watching film...its the real reason Lincoln is what they are....while we like pretty elite builds on our team...watching elite dots means a shit ton more....you put a bunch of elite dots on a team and they will perform 9 times out of 10 better than a bunch of elite builds....guaranteed. I attribute everything we have done to ddingo...the guy goes out and watches games and finds great players...im talking before this season where we merged...he just went out and found great players and i just did what i could do to help....he made this team great and im just glad to OC for it.
I can say tho that I have been OC for several teams and many of them have had pretty elite builds...but it just comes down to dots man...you want to stay ahead of the curve...watch some film...straight up. I don't care how great someone's build is....they aren't elite until it shows on the dot field.

you are right...you don't even have a player worth a pro league...let alone the WL.

another thing that hasn't been mentioned is getting every one on the same page - it's a huge deal to have a cohesive vision for the team (what they are going to do defensively and offensively) and to coordinate builds and AI around that vision. Getting agents who will work with you on this without a me first attitude is huge. Some players just care about the stats their dot gets - the best dots though are the one who will sacrifice numbers for the better of the team.
