And you know how you responded? You said what seeemed to be the case to you but admitted that you didn't have the full story. You got the full story and realized that they were in the wrong.

Know what the idiotic mods did? Started banning CPLers reasonlessly instead of figuring out what the fucking deal actually is.

More support for the (mods need to stop blowing) idea.

seems like most mods have to operate without knowing the full story... it means they make mistakes, but there's no other way around it.

well, you can do the "live in the community you police" thing, but then we're back to the soft corruption problem, which is the chief complaint of the GG crowd.

all of these issues have parallels in real life, of course... we need a criminologist to speed us along.

you're referring to the bolded? i still think it applies.
moreover, i'm obviously talking about more people than just roctronic, so you can't just cling to your pet counter-example like that. i'm not making any sweeping generalities here.

But you haven't given a valid example.

well, onepeat partially applies... but check your PMs in a bit.

six active posters, anyway.

there are plenty of people in the CPL that are active on other forums, though. doesn't mean they'll migrate wholesale to a GG subforum, but it wouldn't be completely dead.

heck, you guys might even like it.

Please find somewhere where this isn't the case of what is happening. Sure, new "innocent" people might get an insult or two in a 5 page thread, but 9 times out of 10, it will be filled with not caring for 2-3 pages, then the subject will change to TF2, or French Toast.

i understand that's your narrative... and it's similar to cheesey's. i'm saying that the GG crowd has a completely different narrative, similar to the one i described earlier.

further, i'm still standing by two mechanisms here:
- the asymmetry effect (where "victims" perceive the CPL as single entity and respond to the aggregate)
- the fact that what passes for a non-insult in the CPL is often still insulting to the non-initiated

an example of the latter is those 2-3 pages of "not caring" are often quite derisive -- why else would the person respond the way they do?

Because they want to be cared about.

i think they could do with out the negative attention.

and you guys need to admit that you like telling people you don't care.

although i'm guessing you didn't get the big pallow letter. did untouchable?

Which big pallow letter? untouchable, gart, and I all got various things from pallow and max.
And no, disagreeing with mods is completely 100% not against the rules. This was not an example of harassing a user, and that is the only time you can justify banning for mod bashing.

disagreeing with mods =/= mod bashing
and i'm talking about the long pallow letter sent out about a month ago. malachorn got one, nfrat got one... maybe it was just a freemal thing?

but disagreeing with mods is what happened, not mod bashing.

You'd have a point if we had mods that were established as good or even decent but these are fucking terrible mods so their horrible behavior is in no way surprising. It wasn't BigT invading our forum, it was voltron. the feudel of mods.

so... mods that agree with you = awesome and mods that disagree with you = terrible, power-hungry, and unprofessional?
this isn't a convincing argument, even if you are right.

I cite such people as Jed and BigT to invalidate your claim. Jed does a lot of disagreeing with me and supporting the administration and other mods when I think he's wrong (and have a suspicion he sometimes knows they're wrong), but he isn't a terrible mod usually.
Hell, voltron, darkus, and NMV have all agreed with me on various occasions, but they were still terrible mods. Bones doesn't generally agree with me and I don't dislike the fellow, but he's a terrible mod. I have never had a run-in with a number of other people, but they're still terrible mods.
I argue with VT all the fucking time, on the other hand, and he's still a pretty good mod. BigT isn't here supporting me and I've been maintaining that he's the best mod (though less active) since we lost Ash.

i'm not sure how this invalidates my claim... especially since i'm not sure i even made one.

i mean, you're the one who specified a population of "fucking terrible mods"... so all you've really done here is furnish a list of people who you're saying aren't in that category.

or maybe i'm missing something here.

looks like a claim to me, and is completely invalidated by me naming mods I argue with a lot who I don't consider terrible.

not really a claim... just clarifying.

and bolded.

And this by the way, is what pisses people off. They tend to hate that nobody gives a damn about their team. Again, I use Yetis as an example...they hated the forum because the only thing they could do was talk about how great their dots were, and honestly, nobody in CPL gives a damn how good their dots are.

That's a HUGE part of the problem that a lot of people have with CPL.

So then occasionally, one of the new teams decides to put their foot down, and try to change stuff. Generally attacking and trolling CPL by quoting rules, and calling them childish. Then when CPL retaliates, they call in support, or some of the mods that are also pissy that CPL doesn't care.

consider this -- if you truly didn't care about their team/etc, wouldn't it be better just to simply ignore them?

instead of 2-3 pages, how about quite literally 0 replies?

That would be fine, but so what? You're asking 30 people to refrain from sharing their opinion rather than asking one person not to get upset when they share the opinion (which is not an insult to that one person). Not very practical.

it's not really about what you say, it's about how you say it.

there are obviously far more constructive ways to tell people that you're not interested... unless of course you wouldn't mind sparking something.

Again, there's no rule against not-tiptoe-ing. You can't hold an entire league responsible for one person being oversensetive, nor should you.

instead of "uptight douchebags", how about "people who don't know the memes yet"?

People who get offended and starts crying to admins when a random person on an internet forum says gtfo is pretty uptight and taking themselves/the internet way too seriously.
Has nothing to do with "knowing memes", it has to do with having thicker skin than a wet paper bag.

eh... if some stranger said "get the fuck out" to my face for no reason, i'd send them to the hospital. that has nothing to do with being "uptight" or taking myself "too seriously" or not having "thick skin". why? because if it was my friend, i wouldn't give it a second thought.

the internet is a learned language... and one of the lessons is that "GTFO" on the internet doesn't mean what it means in real life. can you seriously expect a person to be born with that knowledge?

the whole "i can insult you any way i want and if you don't like it it's your fault" argument seems a little self-serving to me... kind of like "everyone's a little racist", etc.

i'm gonna have to disagree with you. If you go into a violent rage at something liek that, that's pretty uptight.

well, i'm assuming that the person isn't whispering it or something. imagine a setting where the actions fit the words... that's the point.

and mr. internet tough guy says: no violent rage required, really.
