What are they going to do, nerf conditioning? They won't nerf blocking, already did that.

I think a hybrid defense is doable. The only "extra" skill you need is zone or man awareness, which are dirt cheap. You would need physicals no mater which build you use. The SAs might be challenging, although I would still use Gold EOTP and OAI for pass defenders.

I dunno i build zone defenders much different than man defenders. Not just in the case of zone vs man awareness.

The only way zone is viable is via hybrid builds because going all zone defense isn't something the creators of the game are working for or ever have. Corn dog has been quite clear on that. That being said outside of a couple run stoppers and a zone lb or 2 I don't really see any point in going too big on the zone side.

Defender pathing is the biggest current issue on outside runs. Defenders take themselves out of plays constantly by running in to blocking interactions or running underneath them to assume a trailing position. When pursuing defenders get caught up in the garbage is where majority of the monster gains come which keeps morale high. I have been bracing for a correction here for like 6 seasons but it simply has not come. Maybe it will not come but I personally do not believe the easy large gains on the outside have been good for the game. Anyway, once that consistent morale shift is removed I think that we may see some more interesting things happen tactically from the coaching perspective.

I think big gains come from not being able to tackle power runners.

Some do but many do not. Defender pathing is a huge issue ATM. Breaking tackles is to be expected by many. Watch some games featuring these sweeps and counters at all tiers. Safeties and LB pathing is an issue. There are some ways to limit this but if the pathing ever gets fixed it may actually allow DCs to run a wider variety of plays. Would at least be a step in the right direction.

I agree with the pathing issues. Many times my FS will run right into a blocking interaction on sweeps.

Wait, is there a Cover 4 blitz? 4 deep, 2 under, 5 blitzing?

Depends on the zone assignments and how you want them to move in those assignments.

Doesn't matter how fast your safeties are, some plays are designed to beat a Cover 2. These two highlight how sometimes it just doesn't matter what the safety does, it's the offensive play and how it exploits the natural holes in Cover 2 itself.

The FS is over WR3 but then makes a decision to go after WR1 once he sees him move past CB1. The QB goes the other direction and it's too late for the FS.

Here the SS has to choose and picks to follow WR2 down the field, that leaves the TE wide open. Nothing he can do about it since it's Cover 2.

Or he can do like Megatron and switch off the guy he is covering and pop the ball loose. With top end speed and solid quickness, a safety can do this. And this is rookie.

In higher tiers the QB won't have zero throwing power. KL is nice and all, but it's more of a welcome surprise rather than a defensive idea to build around.

Oh and, I think zone safeties need more quickness than what your projected build was giving.

They don't fall down as much as they used to.
