I think you have to complete the spin move animation before you can attempt a PD, so that's a much smaller window. I looked at how the top pass deflecting d-lineman were getting their PD's before I did this experiment, and it was mostly from power.

I agree that power breaks from the blocking interaction are where I got most of mine on my DT when I went after PDs. I also decided it was not worth the heavy investment. I do also agree that spin cycle can lead to PDs as well due to not being involved in a blocking interaction. The DLineman needs to not be engaged and be in the passing lane to have the opportunity to gain a PD but then must obviously pass the PD roll that is done. It is a whole lot of "if" scenarios that just make it a supplemental part of a DLinemans game as too many things have to go right and at the right times and places to have a shot. Better to just build to handle pass blocking and run blocking interactions and if you want to invest in PD skills do so minimally to get them off of the floor. Just my take on it from my experience.

I'm breaking the game...

15 rushing TDs and 10 Receiving. In 3 games I've gotten 15+ achievements.

Challenge accepted. The next roster that I put my finger prints on will have a hybrid defense. As of right now with some initial tinkering it seems doable.

Even after Tunnel Vision fires, they've still got 72 Blitz Awareness. Tunnel Vision adds 10 to PRT and PRP, so a DE with 94 PRT and 97 PRP should have no problems creating space for him to bat passes down.

I experimented with Vertical, the SP required to add maybe 1 batted pass a season isn't worth it.

Well here's where I would have built differently.

Def Consistency: 36 is too low. You want to stop the 3rd Down passing plays. Why is your Consistency so low?

Vertical: your Vert is at minimum. Towering Man lowers Vert cost. Shouldn't you have more than the base value in there?

Pancake Ratio is very low. Is that due to the low Conditioning / Balance/ Heart/ etc? You're not going to get many PDs if you've been caked 88 times.

Not sure if his skills are visible to everybody so I will list them.

70 PRT
83 PRP
78 PRD
78 BRB
78 HG
74 Blitz Awr
36 Def Consistency (low in your opinion and carries some merit - keep in mind this was the pass dominant era)
75 Tackle Tech
35 Power Tackle
45 Tackle Grip
36 Balance
30 Quickness
67 Footwork
25 Sprint
50 Vert
56 Tough
62 Cond
62 Snap Reaction
30 Heart
69 Intimidation

I know not all of those skills are applicable but he was built as a truly balanced guy. Are there some things that I would do differently if I attempted a PD DLineman again? Absolutely! Is investing heavily in the skills worth it based on this guy who played when passing was king? I don't think so. I believe the SP is better spent elsewhere for sure.

2% PD rate against your LZB squad.

Its doable at a cost. The question is more so is it worth the effort and cost to put together? We were a terrible zone team and then a mediocre hybrid defense once we realized our zone defense couldn't work well enough against any sort of pass offense. Good luck tho.

50 Vert is a lot more than 11. I'd have to think that matters somewhat.

Of course it is worth it. What keeps me going here any longer is the challenge of doing things differently and targeting the more difficult things to do IMO. Whether it is making a player build add another viable dimension to his game or making an offense or defense run something differently and still find success. Not everything works of course but going pure META on player builds is not my thing anymore in all honesty. Taking a META type build and making it do more though is a bit more appealing to me. Or simply testing the limits of how high or low you can take skills and still be successful in those areas. There are only a hand full of things that are both a challenge and somewhat feasible and have not had many agents embark on the journey. We know some formations and some plays simply will not work due to the positioning that players are put in whether offensively or defensively. There are many things that simply will not work. A hybrid defense though... I don't think that it is out of reach...

Only way to get PRT, PRP, and PRD that high was to have attributes that way. Would've had more consistency if the build had allowed for it.

That said, I don't really remember a big difference between PD's on 1st and 2nd down's compared to 3rd downs. They just don't happen often enough, and it's a small sample size.

Depends on the zone assignments and how you want them to move in those assignments.

Doesn't matter how fast your safeties are, some plays are designed to beat a Cover 2. These two highlight how sometimes it just doesn't matter what the safety does, it's the offensive play and how it exploits the natural holes in Cover 2 itself.

I'm not saying only run cover 2, I'm saying you can mix in cover 2 with cover 3 and 4 and blitzes.

Good luck with that. I am also one who likes to take challenges, like take an all Zone Defense + all running team to a championship.

All run is pretty dang feasible right now. Will you be ready for the nerf when and if it comes? I honestly think the hybrid defense will be alright after playing with some player build and team concepts. Will be nice to plug in some cover 2 and some cover 3 for various situations as well.

I think a hybrid defense is doable. The only "extra" skill you need is zone or man awareness, which are dirt cheap. You would need physicals no mater which build you use. The SAs might be challenging, although I would still use Gold EOTP and OAI for pass defenders.
