Tim Tebow is nothing without Urban Meyer.

Does the name Alex Smith mean anything to you?

What's your point? You think that Urban Meyer is the reason Tebow is doing so well on the collegiate level? Tebow had the skills. Meyer just gave him the offense.

My point is that QB options and shovel passes only work in college, and have a lot more to do with the scheme than with quarterbacking ability.

Alex Smith had a great college career, but he sucks.

Playing QB at the collegiate and NFL level are entirely different. Most will never be able to make the transition to the NFL. That doesn't mean that they are bad QBs, though, simply because they were great in college but crap in the NFL.

I disagree - if you suck in the NFL, you are a bad quarterback, end of story. Unless you want to start arguing that Ryan Leaf is a good quarterback.

Interesting perspective, but isn't the aim of every college quarterback, to be become a successful NFL quarterback? If they are unable to make the transition into the big boy league, especially after having everything going for them in college, does that not make them unworthy of the bust label?

I think it's impossible to argue that.

All depends on what your perception of sucking is. Any QB that even gets drafted for the NFL means they're probably considered one of the 150 best QBs in the world doesn't it? That sounds like a fair achievement to me, though obviously top 30 (starting NFL QB) is better.

Actually that brings up another question I just thought of - are there local leagues over there for American Football? Like could some 25 year old office worker play for a team in a local league on the weekends, or does the game just kind of die off for people after wherever their talent sees them finish up between high school and college?

I have a friend who used to play in an adult league. Kind of like a softball league for us old farts, but it's still full contact football with pads, but no cheerleaders.

Why not Toss in David Carr while you at it

David Carr isn't a bad quarterback, he's a qb with talent that was developed incorrectly and has made his rounds around bad teams that couldn't fix his problems.

Saddam Hussein wasn't a brutal dictator, he's a leader with talent that developed incorrectly as a child and made his rounds around bad organizations that couldn't fix his problems.
