that was the kind of game we expect in OAA4. a nailbiter. i dont think either QB played exceptionally well. and we've proven that our run defenses are to be reckoned with. great game (albeit a bit sloppy through the air). hopefully we also gave other teams an idea of how to beat GG too :-)

Good game Fiji. I thought you guys would pass on us more than you did. Maybe we will see you guys in the playoffs.

beat GG too? For someone to beat them too they would first have to be beaten ;p

When I first read your message I was like WTF you won... it sounded like that anyway. But then I went and checked.

we had the lead with 38 seconds to go. maybe it wasnt a loss, but it sure showed vulnerability.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but personally, I think completing 61% of your passes for over 400 yards and 2 tds, even with 1 int, qualifies as performing exceptionally well - especially when you consider that Hugh led an 8 play, 50 yard drive to get into field goal range against a pretty tough secondary.

You can't overlook Vincent Young either - his completion percentage was a little lower but he put up over 300 yards and 2 tds...

You can call it sloppy, but considering neither teams running game amounted to jack in this game yet 64 points were scored between the two teams, I'd say the key to this game was exceptional quarterback play.

Vulernability perhaps, but Hugh just refuses to let GG lose

well i think vince and hugh played even (both had 53 attempts, hugh had 35 completions+drops, vince had 34). and while hugh did "lead a game winning drive" 61% is still far from what both of us expect out of our QBs. we know we should be completing 65% every game.

also, it wasnt Hugh that steered them to victory, it was TE D Walker coming up HUGE against the LBs on that last drive.

Yeah but you have to give the defenses credit as well... the Newcastle secondary at least looks very good on paper, and GG aren't exactly punk bitches - but the QBs still torched them.

Also, Walker caught 3 balls, 1 for a huge first down - but he accounted for about a third of the distance they covered on that drive. This was a huge play: http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=106956&pbp_id=3559702 but Walker was wide open and Hugh hit him for the first - it wasn't like he made a catch in double coverage or just blew by somebody, it was a good route and a good read. I think all the recievers for GG stepped up, as they usually do when you have only 2 drops out of 50+ attempts and throw for over 400 yards, but it's a little silly to say that on a drive late in the game when a team trails by 1, an 8 play 50 yard drive made up entirely of passes doesn't qualify as a QB leading a team to victory.

Newcastle gave us all we wanted no doubt, but I think the 4 turnovers for GG as compared to none for Newcastle was what made it a close game. Thats just my opinion though.

former master, i must disagree. we only scored on one of the 4 turnovers (the pick on 3rd and 15 where Hugh couldn't get it over Swat Man to the TE --> TD by Spyder). The first one just swapped who got the ball first, and led to nothing. The third one was at the end of the half and you wouldn't have done anything with it since the ball was fumbled at midfield with 18s to go; we also didnt do anything with it. The fourth one also didnt guarantee any points as the fumble was at the 38 yard line, and we handed it back 5 minutes later so you could score your GW FG.
