Poor WVU...poor Michigan...poor ND...GEAUX TIGERS!
You took our title
...You my friend lost to Pitt.
I was at the SEC championship and we had just gotten back to the hotel after beating Tennessee. Flipped on the tv to watch the 4th Q of the WVU/Pitt game. When it was real tight there at the end Mizzou lost to OU(we were going back and forth) so we were pullin' for Pitt HARD. When they did it we ran out on our little walkway in the hotel and started the Geaux Tigers chant and got the whole lobby of the hotel doing it. That was a FUN night!!!
Were you at the game or did you watch it on TV? If you were watching it on tv did you think it was an omen when they showed a WVU fan holding the "We're going to N.O." sign and then they dropped it onto the field?
I hate you and being there was awful. Its sick to say it was like finding out kin had unexpectedly died for three hours, but thats what it felt like.
You have no idea what I felt like after our loss to UK in the middle of the season...we went all the way up to Lexington and lost in OT as the #1 team in the nation. Ill say this--Im NEVER going back to Kentucky and NEVER wearing blue and white.
No
No
No.
We lost to our #1 rival. In the 100th meeting. With our best chance for a national championship in our grasps. No one expected us to hang with ND in 88/89 as well as we did. Everyone knew our game against Florida (92?) was just a massacre in waiting.
LSU can act like it hates Saban now, or Arkansas, or any other team LSU calls a rival. We chant "Eat Shit Pitt" against Pitt. We chant "Eat Shit Pitt" against Syracuse. We chant "Eat Shit Pitt" at children's birthday parties.
This was perfect. We had a great team that no one could hang with after #5 went down against USF. If Missouri wins, we figured we can outscore them in a shootout (The way we beat Oklahoma, it probably happens). If they lose, we get OSU, who can't handle the spread. Is it a formality? No, but its as good as you could ask for.
Then McAfee misses from 27. Then from 31. And a raucous crowd turned into a palpable, damp mutter. Then Pat goes down. JB looks rattled as a backup. We keep running the same 5-6 plays. The defense is exhausted. Fumbles. Penalties. Refs giving us a blatant no-call for holding the whole thing is so bad for WV. And then it was over. And people cried. And coaches stayed fluffy. And everyone shuffled out as Pitts band just played in the corner of the stadium. All those reservations that we had deposits on where gone. The travel packages meant nothing.
WV is a different state. Theres nothing else outside the University to hope for. Most counties are desolate. Coal mining is our breadwinner. Population is decreasing. Those that stay are moving closer to the Morgantown area. The one thing everyone has in common is looking at each other, smiling and saying "How 'bout dem 'Eers." Rodriguez was despondent after the loss. He was a prick back then too, but even he knew how much the loss would haunt the state. Its almost better he left, or the stigma would be all everyone would be talking about, fiesta bowl win or not.
So don't compare it. Its not even close. WVU has the most wins in NCAA football without an NC. Our new coaching staff has the will and talent to change that. It may happen.
But an upset on the road against Kentucky or the Hogs has nothing on that. They are as far apart as the Sun is to Pluto.
