Yeah, the only real solution is to structure it more like baseball, in that when a player reaches a certain skill level, HE moves up to the next level, not the team. Otherwise, you will have the current system, like the English Soccer League, where the better teams are moved up, and the worse teams are moved down. Either way, it is not a perfect system. I think it really affects the team owners more than anyone, but such is life!

I'm hoping that whenever Bort impliments the Level Median with the penalities for having players that are too many levels above this it will help parity within leagues.

Either way, I can't wait for the season to kick off - this long offseason is killing me. Plus with these rent-a-teams in our conference, an upset win will be that much sweeter.

thnx for keepin me raider dav. i dont know why teams would get rid of their team that did them well last year just to destroy all the other teams in the league

Yeah, with me unable to do anything the first "season" i've made a ton of moves...am excited to get this season started, even if it is losing more often than not.

Ummm....the original AI Bort implemented isn't stupid. It follows common football sense, so if they have no AI, it's not like it's a big edge to have AI. Assuming they don't have AI to begin with.

I know at least in our (Maniacs) case we started recruiting before last season ended and during the playoffs. And we started recruiting on the assumption that we would be promoting to AA, so we were targeting higher level players, several of whom at least expressed interest or even committed before Bort announced he wasn't promoting us.

Also, as far as cutting people who did us right, the only person we let go who didn't ask for it was, well, everyone in this forum knows who, and prolly has a good idea why. I definitely agree that it does suck that we couldn't keep more of last season's starters as starters this season.

I don't know that just the sportsmanship penalties would do a whole lot to stop much... Personally I think it's going to come down to some form of salary cap to keep parity. Plus it would help keep the market more under control, some of the contracts people were asking for in this offseason were just insane.

Fuck yeah. Too much money and what are they going to use it for any way? Well I can see 200k bonus and 240k a year contract seems reasonable for a lvl 15 but thats about it. Thinking Ahead haha

Rockstars are returning basically their entire lineup. I don't see the point in spending 50 hours recruiting to improve a team that was absolutely great and tear it apart. I don't really understand why people would want to join your teams honestly. I sure as hell wouldn't. We actually get royally screwed because we made 6 changes to a roster one day after the chemistry grace period ended and teams made 25 moves in the off-season and we have the same chem. What a joke. Anyways, I still think it will be competitive and fun and look to still have the best defense in the league despite being way out-leveled now. Will the Nike Olympians be able to afford that team with almost no stadium built and 24 $100k+ salaries?

Neither am I.

yeah, I did an "examination" of Western Conference teams total money and stadium size. It was kind of interesting what I found. I will post it, just for fun or whatever, don't read too much into it, I was just curious about it and had the extra time after work!

(Team/revenue/number of total seats/club seats)

Moose Jaw Jackalopes, 7.724m, 16070, 830
San Diego Rockstars, 1.308m, 14570, 800
Prince George's Kings, 2.873m, 12540, 760
Northern Lights, 719,855k, 15140, 600
Grim Afterlife, 1.929m, 14320, 600
North Pole Yetis, 3.103m, 8740, 640
Nike Olympians, 1.903m, 10940, 600
Bort's Wrath, 3.306m, 12300, 600
Alberta Vampires, 1.966m, 8960, 710
Winnipeg Falcons, 1.113m, 14110, 700
Edmonton Experiments, 2.013m, 12280, 600
Bayou City, 2.401m, 9100, 600
Manoa Samoans, 1.170m, 8930, 730
Edmonton Grizzly Bears, 2.539m, 10640, 600
Winnipeg Wolverines, 2.063m, 9800, 600
Southpark Cows, 365,009k, 18040, 740

This was done a few days ago, so it might have changed somewhat. It was done after stadium expansion and season ticket sales, so it won't change drastically between now and start of the season. I find it interesting that the worst team in the league, Southpark, has the biggest stadium. I can't speak for other teams, but the Jackalopes did not take out a loan, and we sold out every game this season through ticket sales. (making the playoffs is very lucrative!) I like the financial aspect of this game; it makes it THAT much more fun for me. On a sad note, we have had to replace a few players just to stay competitive with the rest of the league, so our roster is different than last season. Would have liked to have kept them all, but we would have been outclassed by four to six levels every game if I did. I know our season salary is high, and we aren't the highest level team in the conference, so I can only imagine what the other team salaries are like!

That's enough of my soapbox! Good luck to everyone this season!

It's a shame to be sure. There is absolutely no sense of accomplishment one should get from beating teams that are half your level. It's like some major college football team thumping their chests after beating a middle school girls team. I'll not own a team in this sim until they address parity within a league.

GLB needs at least a couple of leagues where real restrictions are in place for boosting, level differences, etc., to prohibit the absurd mismatches that are all too common. Leagues where teams are close enough that scounting, strategy, tactics, and a little luck are the prime drivers of victory.

I agree, there is no glory if we beat a team of level 12 guys. However, we cannot go for the middle, we have to aim to win the title and to do that we have to beat Nike and some others.

Now obviously, it's a self-fulfilling prophecy: we go up in level chasing others, they go up chasing us. But it is just the way it works, right now.
