Looks like a very solid system. Can't wait for the season to start.

I think some of the criticism was looked at in the wrong light. As many people have said over the past few threads -- intent is difficult on forums like this. I always enjoyed reading Stickman's rankings. If I ever thought they were crap, I sure wouldn't go look at 'em.

Does anyone actually think -- "I've got some free time. Let me go look at some really dumb crap that adds nothing to my day."??

Then -- "This is really stupid. I need to dedicate some time to posting in this stupid thread."??

Lincoln has several hypercompetitive people and we want to be #1 in everything. It doesn't mean we were slagging Stickman or his rankings on occasions where we've made comments. I've explained most of this before so I'll let the dead horse peacefully decompose.

Well, when you put it that way...

EVERYTHING IS FORGIVEN.

Nah, in all seriousness. MOST of the stuff I put up in these forums, ddingo, is just button pushing.

Some people, like Makbeer for exmaple, understood that and laughed about it. Others, like MDTwerps from Baltimore didn't understand and got all antsy in his pantsy.

It's all in good fun, and this is actually a pretty good group we got here in A2. I honestly wish we could opt to keep it together rather than have teams leaving both up and down.

Anyways, looking forward to the rankings SM. They are always fun.

Actually, as I said in the first post on this thread, I didn't withdraw the rankings because anyone or everyone bitched about them. I just had too much other stuff to do, and this wasn't at the top of the priority list. Then the way I had the rankings set up last season, if I missed a week, it was really hard to get caught up and I just didn't have the time to do that.

But, while I was on vacation, I read something that made me think of this way to rank the teams. It's actually quite a bit simpler, and is more modular in nature, so I can easily catch up if I miss a week (although I don't plan on that this season).

So don't worry that the criticism made me stop doing the rankings. That had no effect on things at all. You guys saw me all of season 2, and hopefully most of you know I'm a big boy now and I can take criticism, even if it's not always helpful....lol

OH, and I forgot to mention that I can easily add in a cap if teams seem to beat the snot out of King Donalt too badly again.

Part of what I'm working with over the next few days is determining what the maximum differential scores were for the games not involving Donalt or Sportsrant, and playing with setting the limit at or near the highest score without them. I'm wondering if that might help balance things against inflated scores against overmatched teams. So I have a plan if that seems to be an issue this season as well. We'll see how that works.

At any rate, I'm happy to get back to doing this again, I actually kind missed it at the end of last season.

Thanks,
StickMan

That should be somewhat fixed going into this next season with the "Coast Mode" feature.

Hopefully there won't be many 170-0 beat downs

As I have said for 2 seasons, these rankings are way off and do not correctly dictate top teams by any means.

FACT: The final four teams from last season were:
1. Sin City (won championship game and gets promotion)
2. Baltimore (got killed in championship game but still gets promotion)
3. Lincoln (lost to sin city in 3rd round)
4. Madden (lost to Baltimore in 3rd round)

FICTION
Stickman's final four:
1 - Windycity Menace (booted in 2nd round)
2 - Las Vegas Outlaws (won championship)
3 - Lincoln Navigators (lost in 3rd round)
4 - Dread City Diabolicals (booted in 1st round)

Stickman, you still have some tweaking to do.

At the end of the season nobody would have ranked the Giants higher than the Patriots, Colts, Cowboys, or Packers. Sometimes teams go on streaks. Nobody had the Rockies within 5 spots of a playoff position. They went to the World Series. Just because the rankings show teams in one way, does not mean that's necessarily how it'll end up. That's part of what make sports fun.

Problem there though the statistics could be perfect, reality is though tactics scouting and just pure mixing it up makes a big difference.

Otherwise this would be a boring game... and myself... who doesn't know the difference between a RB and a CB would have a top player....

This is true ! But it still doesn't negate the fact that Stickman is associated with Windsor ! So we must give him hell and nit-pick everything !

I agree that the final four don't match...heck, who couldn't, it's plain as day.

But, I don't think that's a sign of a problem with these rankings....I see that as the problem with doing power rankings OUTSIDE of the regular season. Preseason and Postseason rankings are, simply put, pointless. One's a guess as to how teams will be based on past performance, the other's made moot by the fact that the top teams are now settling it on the field.

Power Rankings should be limited to the regular season. During the regular season, there's some validity to the fact that teams who haven't, and might not, play each other need a way to compare their relative standings. Once the regular season is over, though, there's not much point in comparing...the team that won it all is the best, plain and simple.

Rankings never dictate the top teams.

So I see your other team has had some recent success... Is that why your French team is so horrible? You gutted it to the other team?

That's actually how I've always planned to do the rankings. This is just to illustrate what the rankings would have looked like right before the playoffs last season. It also served as a mechanism for me to explain the new system, and to let you guys know that I'll be doing the rankings for season 4, since things just stopped last season.

And as for the top 4 not matching the top 4 teams in the league, eh...we've been over this before. This is mostly just for people to read and enjoy, and to promote discussion. I doubt it will ever be 100% correct, mostly because of the strategy and coaching effects that can come into play, but are too difficult (or impossible) to account for in a ranking like this. And then because of all those variables, even if you did spend a ton of time tweaking the system so that the teams matched the top 4,8,16 whatever....of last season, it's extremely unlikely that it would happen again, and the system would be wrong for the next season.

So, as of right now, I'm happy with the system as is, and I'm looking forward to watching it work for a whole season.

Thanks,
StickMan
