Houston's Deon Possibly Benched for Home Playoff Opener

Houston (AP) -- The Houston Independent Life Sun Globe Herald Phoenix is reporting that the Houston Orangebloods cornerback Evil Deon may be not be in the starting lineup for Monday night's game against the Austin Longhorns. Houston Orangebloods officials had no comment on the report, but the Associated Press noted on Sunday that Evil Deon's Bentley did not arrive until several hours after practice had begun at the team's practice fields.

The Houston Orangebloods have a notably strict team policy regarding arrival times of players for practices. Evil Deon has been late to prior practices this season and the team has responded by not starting the cornerback, instead bringing him off the bench.

Deon's contributions to the team are well noted in Houston and the rest of the league. He has played his entire 3 year career with the Houston Orangebloods and is considered to be a fan favorite. He is a vocal leader in the secondary, and has led his team in interceptions for the 2nd straight season. He was voted a unanimous defensive captain again this season.

However, this season he has taken part-ownership in a popular Houston nightclub. The nightclub, called "Prime Time", has been very popular with athletes and movie stars. However, while it hasn't affected Deon's gameday performances, many have wondered if his activities in the nightclub have prevented him from being on time to practice.

The Houston Orangebloods play the Austin Longhorns 8pm CST, and the game is nationally televised on ESPN700.

(Sorry, BuddyHorn, I couldn't resist having some fun today.)

Jimmy is a frequent visitor to Prime Time. He stops by every time he is in town to enjoy the scene and talk shit about Deon. Jimmy is opening up his own restaurant at the end of the season. The place will be called Jimmy Turner's. It was supposed to open last off-season, but Jimmy had trouble coming up with the name.

Evil Deon answers questions about his benching.

HCDDTCN: Mr Deon, care to answer to the aligatons you have been benched for tonights game?

I have not been benched. The Austin guys have several great wideouts I am playing nickle. Our boy from the University of Texas Nathan Vasher matches up well with either Austin wideout. He will be fine and I can do a lot coming off the bench and playing on passing downs.

HCDDTCN: So there is not truth to the rumor you were late to practice due to you partying all night at your night club?

E D: Get out of here with that filth. Yeah I was late. God made me do it.

HCDDTCN: God made you late to practice?

E D: Are you deaf? I said God made me do it. I was out spreadig the word with Joel Osteen. Some fools drove by and took our bicycles. Joel had a sermon this morning, so I called him a cab, and walked to the house to get my ride. So yeah God made me do it. He told me to get Joel a ride and to walk home.

HCDDTCN: Well, did God tell you anything else?

E D: Yeah he told me Jimmy Turner is Satan. He has charged me with the responsability of keeping that dude out the endzone.

HCDDTCN: So did God guarantee a victory for the Orangebloods?

E D: Not at first, but when I informed him I was grabbing two interceptions tonight he put in his wager at the Horshoe.

HCDDTCN: There you have it folks, in the words of ED himself God made him late to work and has money on the OBs tonight.

The Houston Daily Statesman Journal:
July 14th.

We finally were able to catch up with the currently undefeated Houston Orangebloods vaunted defense and get a few quick words from a few of them about their pending playoff game vs Austin.

How do you gusy feel knowing that your unit has been one of, if not the, best statistical until overall?:

-Cory Redding: Well, we just look at it as a team effort. We build off of each other and know that if one of us falls, there will be another shooting the gap we left.
-Ken Hackemack: (As translated by his handler) Yeah, like Cory said, we just flow together. It's nice to know that every down you line up for, you get to basically dominate the other guys across from you. It's something we have tried to put to work every game this season, and with a 0 in the loss column, we must be doing something right.

How is the secondary of Houston approaching this game with one of the leagues best WR's?:

-Evil Deon: All I knwo is they sure as hell better not throw it to my side... I have been itching for another pick 6 and I can feel it coming....
-Leo Flagsten: I can't speak for the other guys in this defensive backfield, but I welcome the challenge. Nothing is more exciting than having a WR of this caliber come across the middle and leave a wide open money shot on his ribs...
-Roy Willy WD: We approach this all the same way, stop the pass and assist when needed on the run. Its nothing new... nothing complex. Its our JOB to shut these fools down, and we have proven it can be done... even against this WR.

Sounds like you guys are totally expecting to win this game. I love the confidence. What do you predict for this game?

-CR: I expect us to dominate the trenches and wear these guys down to the nubs...
-Sean Connery: I predict a good hard game with a lot of highlight reel material. Set your TiVo ppl, you don't wanna miss this show.
-Nathan Vasher: I predict another W for us on our march to the ultimate goal.
I'm confident that we will demolish everybody on our way to the final. There is NO ONE in the conference that has been even close to challange our position as the ruler of USA A#1. Our defense is pumped up majorly for this first playoff game. And we can only hope the pisman will stay away from this game so we will have all our players for our continued domination of opposing teams in these games.
-Leo Flagsten: You wanna know what I predict for this game?----- Pain.

Wow, from our brief discussion, these guys sound like they are all about their business. You could almost imply a predatory instinct about how they approach their games, kill or die. The game tonight looks to be full of big hits, and big plays all over the field. Make sure you tune in tonight for the start of what promises to be a very intriguing playoff race for the Championship.

Longhorns Defensive Coordinator Spent Weekend in Asylum

Austin (AP) -- The Austin Times Herald Globe State is reporting that the Austin Longhorns defensive coordinator, jedaviso, spent the weekend in the Austin State Hospital. The 2nd season coordinator apparently was mentally exhausted after spending several all-nighters last week attempting to gameplan for his playoff game against the undefeated Houston Orangebloods.

The Associated Press reports jedaviso was seen spotted the hospital this morning at 8am CST before hopping into his Lexus and driving away.

jedaviso was harassed by reporters upon his exit from the 150 year old facility. When asked why he was in the facilty, he said, "I needed to get away from it all. The amount of time I had committed to this gameplan was putting an enormous amount of stress on me and it was affecting me in all facets of my life. The peace & quiet I've enjoyed here, along with discussions from several great doctors, has helped me keep my focus and made me a better person".

Later, when reporters blocked his entry to his vehicle and asked him if gameplanning against the Orangebloods drove him to this, he yelled, "They're freaking 16-0 and have no obvious weaknesses, what the hell do you think happened after 3 all-nighters of gameplanning ?". jedaviso was carrying a sizeable amount of paperwork with him on the way to his vehicle.

HCDDTCN: Ok, first things first. Your team decided to boost later than many GMs and owners thought was wise to do. What was your train of thought in choosing to do that?

WDF: Well, to be honest, my thought process on holding us back was two fold and a great plan. First I wanted us to hold back to catch up and surpass in levels of the other teams out there like the Sphere. If you recall right before season 3 started that the Bears were all level 16 players with one level 19 in BigKrusher Badazz. The Sphere on the other hand were all level 17 with alot of 18's. So right there boosting early would only hurt us since we would still be behind in levels. Secondly it was our schedule that made me want to hold boosting. I said in my head that we should be in week 8, even without boosting, 5-3 and then have a list of cream puff teams to knock out wins against. I felt that if we held our boosts till the game Vs the Hitmen we could have been 12-4 or 13-3. Unfortunatly we dropped two games that we should have won vs the Allen Zephyrs and the Dallas Horns that made us 2-5 at week 7. I take the blaim for those losses and the forced boosting that occurred cause of them.

HCDDTCN: would your team do it the same way again, or would you try a little harder to get in the mix for a home playoff game?

WDF: Yes I would do it again and No I wouldnt. As I stated above the plan was great. Had I just game planned better and won one or both of those games vs the Allen Zephyrs and the Dallas Horns we would be a very different looking team ATM. Alot of my players are on the brink of getting level 24. That would have been level 25 if I held them back from boosting in week 8. I wished I didnt lose it and panic with calling for the boosts when we were 2-5. Cause the next 6 games were against chumps and we would have won those anyways. I wished I just stuck to the plan of waiting till the Hitman game to boost.

HCDDTCN: Now that the boosting has been done and you have made it in the tournament, how do you like your chances?

WDF: We all have been here before and seen how crazy the GLB gods are. This is a first time we are an underdog. All the other times i expected to win 100% and I guess that was our downfall. These games are of a different beast. You watch hours and hours of film and think you know a team and then they just come out and play totally different. The underdog has nothing to lose. The Sphere played us long ago in week one with a 4 to 5 level advantage... and we lost 28-7. Lets see what happens now that the teams are even.

HCDDTCN: Your team appears to be stronger than the Sphere on paper, do you think this is the case?

Well... thats cause the Sphere have some low level backups. If you look at their roster they have players they would never start. They also play their starters much longer then my team does. We on the other hand have quality backups who would be starters anywhere in the league. Hense why we are rated higher. Now... this game will be about whos starters kick whose asses and how their bench helps them.

HCDDTCN: Again, congrats on the playoff berth. Any closing words of wisdom for the good folks in USA#1?

Thanks and grats to your team making the dance as well. Words of wisdom? hmmmmm. This is the playoffs. anything and everything will happen. You think you know a team from the 16 game season and if you watch from prior playoffs that is totally different then what you see here. I am planning on shocking the world!!! But just know this.. win lose or draw, Cerneo will be in the A#1 next season.

Dont hesitate you second guess yourself. You have until 7cst to change the gameplan all you want. I recomend you change it and rechange it. Thats why the Bort allows change. Change is good.

If you need help I can give you our game plan. All you have to do is ask.
