But we were talking about o-liners. Our o-line doesn't produced a lot of pancakes. But they allowed only 3 sacks and 37 hurries in 13 games. I prefer that way, I don't want to have 500 pancakes but maybe 20 sacks and 80 hurries. That's why I am not thinking that you can measure the qualitiy of an o-line player b ythe pancakes he made.

I would agree. Our O-line has only given up one sack the entire season, and they usually lineup against D-line's that out level them by 2-3 levels. I would rather have our o-line not get a single pancake than give up a lot of sacks.

OK, I guess I'll have to clarify my earlier post and also explain the things everyone brought up with it. I never said anything about pancakes over sacks, not sure where that came from. I was just saying with custom equipment, he would have more points towards his abilities and attributes, meaning he would be a better player. Noone can argue with that. Now, to the sacks and pancakes part of everyones response, don't you guys think with an extra 12 points, (I don't know if the rest of the Oline has special equipment), the hurries and sacks would have been lower?
Now lets talk about pancakes. For those who don't know what a pancake is, here you go. It is when a player overpowers his opponent to the point he CAN'T make a play on the ball carrier. Not at the line of scrimmage, 10 yds downfield, NEVER going to happen on that play. Pancakes are very important, if a dlineman has low confidence, being pancaked demorralizes him. It also effects his stamina, trying to get up while a 330 lb player lays on him. I won't recruit or sign a player that doesn't have custom equipment, because he could be better.
Afterall, isn't GLB about building the best player we can? Isn't it about as a coach recruiting and signing the best players possible? How can anyone say they have built the best player they can, if they haven't taken advantage of everything available.

I agree with most everything you say except the point you make that a pancaked player is done on the play. I swear I've seen many occasions where a defensive player gets pancaked very early in the play, almost too soon, the blocker then proceeds to the next line of defense, but the pancake happened so early that the defender then gets up and makes the play on the HB following the blocker. But it does demoralize and drain stamina.

Yeah you're correct on that a pancaked player can get up and make a play. It's happened to my running back way too many times this year.

I've never seen that, unless maybe it's a very slow developing play, very slow. I've seen a player get up, but he is always slow to move and has no chance to make a tackle. Maybe these players have a real high confidence and stamina level that enabled them to make a play. It could also be that my Oline players are extremely strong, I don't know. Not sure.

Your avatar doesn't show the players's relation to ground level. How are we not to know that the Sooner rushed the QB and the QB picked him up like a sack of potatoes and is about to shot put him into the secondary?

Funny, thats 330 on 210, the only thing that got shot put into the secondary is the ball, which wes intercepted by Nic Harris. Their QB, not going to mention any names, wasn't right the rest of the game. Maybe it's true about the confidence and morale in real life games too. That was a mean sack, he's on his way down in that shot.

Ok, let's not derail here, I was clearly kidding. Fact is in real life football, if you're pancaked you're done, because they play usually develops so fast all you can do is watch someone else tackle the guy.
BUT, this is the wonderful world of GLB and I know and well as Menamino has posted that pancaked players too often roll around or get up and still make tackles. I'm not going to dig around to find plays, but if I see more going forward I'll be more than happy to post.

Cool, it's all in fun, I didn't mean it otherwise. I also really appreciate everything you do with the game predictions.

Hurries+sacks allowed and then pancakes
