Morale gains and point gains from runaway TDs are also huge things to deal with and the entire offense gets them and your entire defense gets hit.

You're sacrificing your team and boosting the rest of their team to target one guy. Yes he's the most important, but if you give his periphery players a chance to get fired up and are lowering your entire teams morale to do so, he'll probably be able to climb back anyhow.

I could see the argument for DTs, since inside runs are much less likely to go all the way if a DT just runs by the HB and gives him more lead blockers - but it's still dangerous to just throw away numbers like that in the run game. That DT or DE needs to at least be engaging a linemen to stop him from getting upfield and cutting off more routes for pursuit.

I guess it comes down to how often will your DEs get beat vs. how often they break blocks and tackle the runner.

In this case, the runner was already passed the DE so Blitz Aware wouldn't have helped. But, it did help hitting the QB and lowering his stats.

I never put any blitz awareness on any D-Linemen. Most of the time, if a D-Linemen has a chance to make a tackle, the HB is running up the middle or off tackle and runs right into the D-Linemen, who has to shed the block anyway. I put blitz awareness on many of my LBs.

Have you noticed any of your linemen hitting the QB after he'd gotten rid of the ball?

I知 a real life coach and if I could get away with doing this in real life, I would all day. OLD SCHOOL!

I've been offered to coach middle school twice before but never had the time to do it, but since my son is 7 and wants to play I plan on coaching his pee wee team now that I'm able... which should be a blast.

That'll be great! You can develop your Playbooks for games in GLB. Then, if you can't make a game, print out the Tactics and hand them to the assistant coach (just make sure he doesn't always punt on 4th & inches... very frustrating for the spectators).

ahah...

I believe sweeps are the main play on offense at these lower levels, so if I'm running defense I'll prob put LB's wide or just put the safeties up near behind the CBs. It won't take me long to figure it out... I didn't know anything about soccer when I coached the U8, but after 2 games I had a really competitive team. Outside of doing strategy, turns out I'm also really good at motivating kids.

In general, when a defender gets by his offensive linemen and then goes after the wrong target - he is taking himself out of the play. The more of your linemen you give that mentality, the more likely that even 2 of them will do the same. Each time you give the other team another freed up blocker to go to the second level, without delaying the HB, you are severely increasing the chances of a runaway touchdown. The worst place for this to occur would be on the edge, since they can move upfield and effectively seal off 2-3 defenders from being able to cut off the HB's route. Defenders have a mobility advantage on top of having great pursuit now, closing speed gives you a huge boost to getting into the play as well, the main problem is that HBs are good at breaking through 1-on-1 interactions and that no matter how good you are at running, going through a blocker is still impossible. So letting those blockers on the edge get upfield regularly is a huge liability to your team in the outside run game.

Only one of your DTs should be a 'punitive' QB rusher if you are going to go for that, if he's got no awareness he should follow through often enough himself anyhow.
