Is it possible to normalize skills somehow when a cross-tier matchup happens?

With the decline of teams (human controlled) perhaps it's time to take out another tier? I hesitate to suggest that because I am worried that you guys will make us pay for 2 boosts again - like you did when you removed Seasoned - but maybe bring it down to 4 tiers. Perhaps make the extra boost free? Hint, hint

Anyway the new tier structure would be something like this:

Rookie
Journeyman
Pro
Veteran

That way in 3 seasons we are looking at Vet instead of losing interest in all these small leagues/tiers.

Maybe to split the difference give us a (one) free boost for reaching Veteran or something? Or if it is easier to code then give us a free boost in Journeyman. Not sure if this is feasible or not but you did it once.

My (somewhat evolving theory) is that more folks won't fold because everyone talks about getting to vet but only some make it. I myself am guilty of cashing in too much and resetting but would like to play more vet ball. Agreed there is nothing stopping me now but getting crushed by upper tiers for 3 seasons is not real appealing. I could handle 2 seasons I suppose.

Just some ideas.

Guess who my 3-4 Journeyman team just drew ? MidWest Anarchy, a 6-1 Pro team !

Man the match making is really good, it provides good challenges for the Journeyman teams.
Who wants to play against a similar level team ? That's boring as hell !

After getting absolutely destroyed for 2 games maybe I will find a way to lose by only 50 points, that seems like a fun and interactive challenge !

PS : 2018 Huskers a 6-1 J team drew the infamous Bowie Bay Serious Moonlight (7-0 Pro team), who will be playing their 4th (out of 4) ladder game against a lower tier team, if only there was other Pro level teams they could face, really unlucky

There's only 1 league in journeyman. Ladder matches are for playing other leagues. League games are for playing league opponents. You are going to play a tier up every game due to a lack of Journeyman teams and there only being 1 league.

Back in my day we used to complain about playing a tier or two up when we had other similar tier opponents that we could actually be facing. This isn't the case anymore. There just aren't enough teams on each tier to keep ladder matches interesting anymore unless there are at least 2 leagues in the tier.

Pro has 1 league. They are gonna play up or down every ladder game.
Journey has 1 league. They are gonna play up every game.

There's no good fix besides removing another tier as suggested by stamango.

You made good points Rob.

But since the time when they were multiple leagues in each tier is over, the devs should modify how ladder works accordingly, or how the schedule is done in general (more League games, less Ladder for example).

Removing another tier would help that matter for sure, but modifying what purpose ladder has would be simpler and could probably be done during the season, the condition "the team you face is from another league" is just unhealthy in the current state of the game, and this Journeyman season is ruined because of it.

You have to adapt the game to the amount of teams you have.
And CD never said "I will find a way to make ladder more interesting, this ain't right", telling me he agrees that it sucks playing a top team from a tier up is better than ignoring me, but it doesn't fix anything.

If I was matched vs Pro teams with records close to mine I wouldn't find it as annoying, but right here I'm 3-4 going into a 6-1 team, actually every Pro team I faced had a better record than me.

I'm just disapointed to have yet another game that has no interest for me.

We are infamous?

I'll say we were in the same boat as you last season. We came close in a couple of games but usually collapsed by the 4th quarter. There was an element of fun in trying to make it a game, but I don't see the harm in handicapping the up tier games in some way.

I think that's preferable than doing CPUs unless there were pregenerated CPU teams with some kind of identity. Like minibosses.

Used infamous in the "notorious" meaning, because you are murdering every J team you put your hands on, not hating or anything.

I dig you. We were feeling it last season. We will hopefully all be seeing each other soon on a more even playing field!

Why not play us up a tier against CPU teams in the development teams?

OR....and just stick with me for a moment here.... The owners make finding new customers a priority and make team ownership more friendly. Like removing chemistry penalties, having searchable forums, ect

As convenient as it may be to apply your personal pet peeve to any problem and contribute it to the downfall of the game, literally zero new players have commented that chemistry is the reason they quit playing. Not once.

Are you hoping for a positive outcome from this?

They don't send surveys out to new players that quit obviously so his comment that players that quit don't comment about chemistry issues makes zero sense and holds no relevance.

I mean, it certainly doesnt help keep players when they spend more than half the season being a lesser version of the guy they made.
