dont understand why anyone gives a shit about any national anthem in my opinion. Its a a song thats all it is. Its your actions in every day life that show respect to the military or whatever you want to show respect. not a song

OK, I see we have some not so up to date historians. They aren't kneeling because of the flag. The Star Spangled Banner is the perfect song for them to kneel to. If you know your history of Mr.Key who wrote it. You'd know he was a racist and was a guy was also anti-black but anti-slavery as well. He wanted to free the slaves and send them back to Africa. He thought Blacks to be inferior to the Whites. I wonder if he thought that watching the colonel marines burning D.C.? That's for another day.

As for this present issue. I was raised in a military family, I will not ever disrespect that flag because of what it stands for, for me. I bucked the family trend and choose college football life over military life. I have family members who served in wars who won't stand for the flag anymore because they believe the flag is just cloth. They didn't fight for some cloth, they fought for the people. So that we all can keep our rights as Americans.

Below I came across a story today about a 97 year old WWII veteran who is kneeling ing support of the NFL players right to protest.

https://sports.yahoo.com/97-year-old-wwii-vet-goes-viral-taking-knee-support-nfl-players-041427597.html

I saw someone said the flag show's our unity? This country hasn't been united for a LONG TIME! This country is amazing when faced with tragedy. We come together for one another like no other country in the world. But when things are going ok we don't show that same compassion for each other. Think about it, we are on a game msg Board talking about a basic American right to protest. The same people are the ones who are first to get upset when someone tries to infringe on our right to bare arms. I'd like to see someone try and come into my House to take my guns.

I grew up in Louisiana. Blacks are about 50% of the population. I didn't see a lot of disrespect going on. We all got along pretty good.

Are you racially profiled based on the color of your skin?
Is there numerous groups that want to eradicate you from the face of the earth?
Are you treated differently because of what you look like?
When going to job interviews, are you asked the most demeaning questions because they assume everyone of your race is the same?
Are you taught to be afraid of police because even if you are peaceful, they won't be?

This has to be your dumbest post yet GE. Your being racially insensitive. But based on your comment I guess that's just how you are and nothing is gonna change that. Especially if your born down south. No offense, but southerners are the most ignorant when it comes to colored people. Especially since the confederate flag still waves down there all over the place and in your face.

The kneeling isn't about the vets, tbh the vets that are upset just feel like the attention isn't on them. You can fight for a country's freedom all you want, but the vets who are extremely outraged just show how arrogant are. Just because your fighting for freedom doesn't mean that the nation is free. Oppression is real. Police officers have started to fuck up by pulling over more famous black people and harassing them without realizing who they are. More people are starting to listen.

It's not even limited to the blacks. Muslims & hispanics deal with this shit too. I love vets, I have them all over my family. But those who get their panties in a bunch over this aren't being anything more than self centered

i could really not care less, kneel or peacefully protest all you want

i dont understand how a bunch of football players kneeling during a song is gonna "fix" anything but w/e go for it lol

edit: fwiw i am white and i agree there is still far too much racial profiling from the police in our country and that those police who commit those violations are not penalized accordingly, but i also think that typically these issues are protested in the wrong ways (violence/crime/looting/etc) which hurts the issue(s) more than it helps bring the proper attention to them.

you are right and wrong.

You do have that right, but when representing your boss/company, they have the right to dictate your behaviors and or respond with a firing/discipline as needed.

Ex-military and I have zero problem with it. They are peacefully protesting and bringing a lot of attention to the issue.

my problem is the "issue"

Let's go with stats and factual info during an argument and I'll pretty successfully shut down the whole America is bad for black/minorities with general ease

it's easy because you and most that argue this don't actually use facts. Facts tend to heavily lean to America NOT being a racist country

Is there numerous groups that want to eradicate you from the face of the earth? yes
Are you treated differently because of what you look like? depends on the area whites are in, so yes
When going to job interviews, are you asked the most demeaning questions because they assume everyone of your race is the same? What you are getting at is basically illegal and likely have no proof of it occuring (emotional argument)
Are you taught to be afraid of police because even if you are peaceful, they won't be? this is an issue within the black/latino community passing on this false belief/statement. Just untrue that if you are peaceful to the police, they won't be to you.

Because media is controlled by whites, social injustices based on race aren't recorded throughout our history accurately

Tbh though, I feel like the ones who produce stats can kneel. If your the fourth string rb you better stand your ass up and respect the country for allowing your sorry ass to even letting you have the right to be shit on the bench

nobody said the country is racist, we said there are still racist issues. And its not just about black people. It is about all races and the need to be united as a country and not united as different races. You can't put a fact on right or wrong. Do cops tend to suspect a black person our at night walking the streets to be doing something wrong? Do most assume the hispanics mowing lawns are illegals? both questions come with a yes prodominatly. The fact is that its true. but its also true that some black people assume if a white cop is doing is job normally on say and actual speeding ticket, the cop is a racist pig. Now clearly both of these examples are wrong. And its the entire point. These players want unity as one. Not saying just black people are attacked here. Where this got out of hand is when the president comes out and calls the players SOB. No president ever should have done that. He is suppose to represent the country as a whole not as his opinion. Like i said before i originally was one that thought these players needed to stand the fuck up. But as i did research and saw what they stood for(or refused to stand for) i no longer felt as i did before. Now at the end of the day do i believe they should stand yes i do because its in their rules of conduct. But their reasons for not standing are good reasons and they are peacefull. I will take peaceful every day over having any incident like North Carolina or Baltimore ever again.

My biggest problem is the hypocrisy being shown over the issue.

When the Cowboys wanted to protest in honor of the 5 cops shot dead during the BLM rally, the league shut them down. When players wanted to put stickers on their helmet to protest in honor of 9/11, the league said no. When players wanted to do such to bring awareness for domestic violence and breast cancer (outside of the few games they wear pink), the league said no. When Tebow was kneeling for prayer, he got a lot of grief while in the NFL...he's in minor league baseball and is still catching it over it.

I'm a Scotch-Irish Libertarian who leans Right and a Constitutionalist. I believe it's their right to kneel as their freedom of speech, but they are also employees whose boss can dictate if that's allowed I think...either way, while it is peaceful, it is also divisive or we wouldn't be even having this conversation.

Lastly, while this thread should prob be moved, it is creating some activity here in General.
