You guys are forgetting that man pass defenders need more coverage tech than zone pass defenders.
Forum > FAQ's, Player Guides and Game Help > Why is Zone Aware more expensive than Man Aware?
I thought I had heard it said that zone coverage requires coverage tech just like man does.

I actually never noticed, I've always been more pissed that it takes Zone Defenders longer to recognize run.

Because in GLB2 once a Receiver enters your Zone you are essentially playing man coverage. You do need Coverage Tech in Zone, I noticed a big improvement once I added it. I'll be respecing all my guys next season to add more.

1) That's not quite true. A receiver entering your zone acts like a magnet of sorts, but competing with other magnets. The defender is not essentially playing man coverage, but adjusting their position partially to the presence of the receiver.
2) I didn't say you didn't need any coverage tech in zone, I said you need more in man.

They literally chase the WRs around just like a man defender. They aren't adjusting positions, they are defending a Receiver. I just spent 5 seasons trying to convince myself that Coverage Tech wasn't needed in Zone, I was completely wrong.

I don't see where you've ever even built a cornerback.
Just wondering - where do your zone opinions come from cuiv? (genuine question) Did you run a team that ran zone?

Also makes me wonder about the possibility of CB's with zone aware and man aware ~60-70 or something. Could a combo defense be possible and viable? Would open up things a great deal on defense and potentially (but not certainly) begin to get us away from the same plays being run over and over and over exclusively.
This is what the "Flex Coverage" trait is for, lowering the cost of both while also lowering the ceilings. Of course for any given position one will cost more than the other; but it's cheaper to get both fairly high, albeit with a lower ceiling on each.

Still think the idea that coverage tech matters for Zone is dumb. Paraboon, you may well be right, and if you are, I think it's barbaric.
Zone needs some new traits to really help them out in this case. Way too much SP is needed for linebackers now.

To deflect or int the ball.

Zone guys also get head faked and pump faked.

They can't get head faked, at least they're not supposed to, it says in the tool tip that head fake only effects defenders in Man Coverage.
